An update on what's to come in the near future for Cabbell Park and Cromer Town Football Club

An update everybody with the latest situation regarding Cromer Town Football Club and Cabbell Park.

It is accepted that the club no longer has ant legal rights to continue playing their home matches at Cabbell Park under the 1922 lease as this has now expired.

NNDC now have ownership of the ground and it is their intention to go out to public consultation regarding the Covenant that required the land to remain as Open Space.

If they are successful with the removal of the Covenant, it is their intention to sell the front portion of the ground to the Cromer Medical Practice for the purposes of building a new surgery.

To enable this to happen, they will be moving the playing pitch to the far end of the ground, including all necessary fences, moving of floodlights, ground drainage etc., it is intended this work will commence soon, and be available for the commencement of next season.

We will continue to use the ground under a license from NNDC for a period of approximately 5 years, after which we will transfer to play on a new Community Sports facility, including space for Cromer Youth and potentially other sports in the future.

NNDC have drawn up a list of 4 potential sites around the Cromer area which they believe could accommodate such a facility. 2 of these sites are off Roughton Road, 1 at the edge of Northrepps and 1 on the Overstrand Road, opposite the golf club. NNDC will in the very near future be seeking view on preferred sites from residents, clubs, local councils etc.

We would urge you to make sure that you participate in this consultation, and would advise that the football clubs preferred option is the Overstrand Road site; this is the only site that is within the Cromer Parish, it is the only site which has pedestrian footpaths to access it. Additionally Cabbell Park was established as a memorial to the people of Cromer lost in the First World War and any transfer of that to a site outside of Cromer would be a disgrace.

It is proposed that the consultation period will start very soon and be completed by 17th April 2015; you will be able to make comments online at http://consult.north-norfolk.gov.uk

Leaflets explain the process together with short description of each site will be available from NNDC offices etc. we will also try to obtain a supply at the clubhouse.
