Heyford Athletic 2-0 Cropredy Oxfordshire Senior League Premier Division Tuesday 24th April 2018

Cropredy have been at the helm of the Oxfordshire Senior League Premier Division since October 2017, Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat saw our opponents Heyford climb above into the top spot. Admittedly we’d played more games than anyone else and a few poor results along the way didn’t help – meaning it was out of our hands. Heyford became the only side in the top 4 of the OSL to defeat us this season, whilst it’s no consolation it shows the great progress the club has made in the OSL.

The away side started the opening minutes of the game well, but Heyford soon imposed themselves and began to dominate play, Heyford struck the bar with a header from Callum Lloyd before breaking the deadlock shortly after. The goal coming from a combination of Cropredy failing to clear their lines and great work from the Heyford front man Ben Tapping, who worked an opportunity and slotted the ball past Kurt Fox to give the home side a deserved lead. That moment summed up the hard work Heyford were prepared to put into the game to pick up 3 points. Soon later the home side doubled their lead, a dangerous ball was whipped across the face of the box with Delahunt quickest to react, poking the ball home to make it 2-0.

The second half was played through horrendous torrential April rain showers – which in hindsight we should have berated the referee to call the game off! The ball zipped around on the quick surface which both sides struggled to control, Heyford defended their lead well as Cropredy struggled to break down the organised oppositions backline.

A well-deserved win for Heyford who will be very much in contention for the league title, we’ve kept it warm for a good while and now hand the baton over! We travel once again to Chalgrove this weekend for our final league game of the season before finishing the season ending Cup Final finale against Yarnton.

Up the Crop!
