WEATHER- Dry PITCH- Soft June 17th 2012
Crosfields had the honour of being the first junior side to play on ‘the pitch of dreams’ in it’s first weekend of use. Far from being inspired they turned in a first half performance with the ball that was light years away from what we had seen seven days previously against Rose Bridge. Possession was lost continuosly which led to them having to defend endlessly and only present a serious threat to the St Annes lines in the dying moment of the first half.
The second half though was a completely different story as Crosfields quickly wiped away the deficit and settled down to play as we know they can do as St Annes lost their discipline somewhat to help them along .
The home side managed to restrict the damage of the first half to six points by defending well, the only try coming from the St Annes number 11 who burst over from dummy half on 17 minutes. 0-6 HT
The second half though produced 52 points as Crosfields got their game together and look after possession to score 30 points in the next 20 minutes, as the horror story of the first half was quickly forgotten. Then as Crosfields switched off St Annes scored three more tries late on.
Tucker finally got the ball rolling for the home side with a powerful burst from 60 metres in the 32nd minute. Dessington converted 6-6
This was quickly followed by a try by Himbury who ran onto Williams’ nice short pass at a fine angle to score from thirty metres in the 35th minute, Dessington converted well off the post. 12-6
A further spell of pressure as St Annes conceeded a number of penalties saw Jepson power over in the 42nd minute. Dessington converted. 18-6
The ball was moved nicely along the the line for Himbury and the unselfish Tucker who could have scored himself to send Sutherland over wide out in the 45th minute, Dessington converted from wide out. 24-6
Whittakers trademark ‘dummy’ saw him cross to the right in the 50th minute. phil rice converted. 30-6
St Annes scored on 54 minutes hacking on a loose Crosfields pass before Whittakers slightly delayed pass in the 58th minute saw Himbury cross, Rice converted. 36-12
Crosfields then conceded two sloppy tries in the dying moments. 36-22 FINAL
