Southgate men's summer league report

Due to the absence of the old loughtonions summer league the first and second team combined to contest the southgate summer league this year.
The result of which will undoubtedly give the first team captain a number of selection dilemmas going into next season.

We welcomed some new players in Gavin Dixon, Gio Pericolini, Harry Chick and Marc Tovell and some old players back too: Simon MacLeod; who was the player of the Summer for me, Neal Lofthouse, Demi and A-J Vassiliou, Callum Burden and Dan Hunn. It was also good to see so many of the juniors play a few games despite exams and summer holidays so a big thanks to Joe Hall, Ian Baldwin, Vas Shelkov, Callum Palmer and Jake Burke who all made appearances and demonstrated their enormous potential.

In terms of results the campaign was rather mixed. We finished 4th out of 9 in the league stage and qualified or the cup phase with wins against Ford, Southgate u18 and Southgate Goblets securing our place in the top 5.

After an excellent victory against Mill Hill in the 1st game of the cup phase we lost the remaining 3 fixtures against very strong opposition but learnt some valuable lessons that will stand us in good stead once the season proper starts and was an opportunity for players to further display their first-team credentials.

Thank-you to everyone for making themselves available wherever possible and a huge thanks to those who gave up their time to umpire:
Phil Everett, Dave Matson, Simon Gilbert, James Paddon and Gavin Dixon. I look forward to the start of the season and hope the experience, fitness, fun and opportunity that the summer league has provided will help both teams to have fantastic seasons this year.

Felix
