The U10 side started proceedings with a 8.45 game v Chelmsford. This was the first competitive hockey that this age group has played and they got off to a flying start with a 3-0 victory. Freddie Britt was the star with a hat trick.
A 5-0 defeat to eventual winners Old Lought's could have dampened their enthusiasm but they bounced back with a narrow defeat to the long established Blue Hornets, who scored in the last second to win 2-1. Siena Crossley scored our goal.
The next game was v Ipswich where a very committed performance resulted in a 2-0 victory with Freddie Britt again finding the net and Liam Dolden scoring his first goal. Harry Goddard in goal made a number of good saves to keep a clean sheet.
The penultimate game was against a strong Hertford side, where despite losing 4-1 they never gave up and managed to score a consolation as Freddie notched his fifth goal of the day.
Final game was against another heavyweight, national league Canterbury. This game could have gone either way but in the end the opposition had more experience and scored a solo goal to give them a 1-0 victory.
Summing up, 2 wins, 2 close defeats and 2 losses against experienced sides was a great effort in their first tournament.
The players attitude was tremendous and they will only benefit from their first competitive outing.
