Home Counties Girls' League - Development B MATCH REPORT 07/12/14

The squad this week were Saskia, Jessie, Demi, Clara, Klara, Evie, Ruby, Florence, Safia, Izzi,Clemency, Talia (GK) and Lucy.

On a grey and damp December morning, the Crostyx wagons rolled way out west to face the Ealing tribe. Ealing had not conceded a goal in any game since the start of the season and were top of the league. Crostyx had scored the most goals in the league so far in the season and were second in the league...Game On!

A tremendous start, as Lucy intercepted the ball quickly and drove up the field, passing a number of the Ealing players, and planted the ball into the goal. (0-1). Crostyx pushed again with good
connecting play between Klara and Jessie up the left. Ealing fought back and made the defenders Safia, Ruby and Clemency work hard. Talia (GK) made a number of very important saves. More pressure was piled on by Ealing, and even with Florence and Izzi dropping back to help defence Ealing broke through and scored. (1-1).

From the restart at the beginning of the second half, Crostyx seemed fired up. They pressured Ealing and this resulted in a couple of short corners. Demi, Clara and Saskia pressed hard, but it was Evie who hit the target! (1-2). Crostyx kept pressing, despite the 'swarm' tactics of Ealing (most of their players seemed to surround the ball). Another break from Lucy resulted in Crostyx goal number 3 (1-3). The heavens then decided to open up(thank you Derringer for providing bags to keep the clothing dry) but this did not dampen the commitment of the girls. It was to be an edgy half, with Ealing pressing hard to keep their unbeaten record. The decisive moment was the best move of the game with some great passes up the right side finished with a superb cross into the D where Saskia was perfectly positioned to plant the ball into the goal. (1-4). Ealing rallied again and after a lot of pressure, scored their second. (2-4).

The Crostyx supporters had a nervous watch as Ealing threw everything at Crostyx towards the end of the match. However, the girls kept strong and the game ended Ealing 2 - Crostyx 4.

Thanks to Paul Murphy for umpiring.
