An enjoyable evening celebrating the end of another season

After a disappointing afternoon in the Bob Rogers Cup final, everybody was looking to have an enjoyable evening, to celebrate the end of another season.

With a change to the normal protocol, we had three ladies attending the men’s dinner for the first time ever, these were a most welcome change and a pleasure to have with us on the evening.

Master of Ceremonies, Mark Rosier (Rosie) started the proceeding with a few jokes to get everybody in the mood for a great night.
Again in a break to the normal tradition, anyone attending was ask to wear smart casual wear with a shirt and club tie. A few of the guys wore their Club Blazer’s, and everyone sat down to a 3-course dinner. Prepared by Jacqui Eyres and her army of helpers.

At the end of dinner the 3rd XV team Captain, Ed Radford started the ball rolling by introducing his awards for the season as follows:
3rd XV – Player of the Year, James Crouch
3rd XV – Players, Player of the Year, Phil Hart
3rd XV – Most Improved Player of the Year, Mark Hart
3rd XV – Special Award – Knob of the Year, Ant Wicks
3rd XV – Clubman of the Year, Dave Radford.

As Richard Siggs was away on vacation `down under` Dan Moore his assistant took over the duty on announcing the 1st/2nd Team Squad awards.
First up – The Crowborough Supporters Award also known as the `Crowborough faithful` award was presented by Rick Howe, and as voted by the regular supporters who travel to all the 1st XV games both home and away.

Different to previous years, the amount of nominated players was no surprise considering the 1st XV team used 55 players to complete the league and Cup runs. No fewer than 7 players being nominated, and the winner was the Welsh Wizard and Captain Fantastic, Sean Derrick.

Dan also asked Paul Gray as our Director of Rugby to join him to help present the awards as follows:
2nd XV – Player of the Year, Tom Kent
2nd XV – Players, Player of the Year, Andy Orchard
2nd XV – Most Improved Player of the Year, Andy Orchard
1st XV – Player of the Year, Sean Derrick
1st XV – Players, Player of the Year, Gus O’Grady
1st XV – Most Improved Player of the Year, Damien Hayes
1st XV – Senior, Young player of the Year, Harry Sansbury
Two other awards were announced on the night, but unfortunately both recipients were unable to attend, The awards went to `Best Newcomer of the Year`, Nick Hill.
1st & 2nd XV Outstanding Team Contribution award went to Andy `Bones` Barker, who without doubt had one of the toughest jobs of the year sorting the large amount of injuries with his treatment sessions, full-up on most training nights.

The evening was a great success, everyone had a great time and the turn-out was fantastic, our final thanks should go to Sandra and her team, for their service and patience during the evening.
Congratulations to all the Award winners, and this brought the curtain down on a very tough season for the senior section.
