Seventeen and counting.
Crowborough Athletic FC Youth Section hosted its 17th Annual Football Fiesta at Alderbrook last Saturday and Sunday.
This year's Fiesta yet again proved to be a huge success, with boys and girls ranging from ages 6 to 14 taking part and all having a thoroughly enjoyable time.
The Fiesta also attracted large crowds with family and friends making the most of the facilities, sunshine and hospitality laid on by the Club.
This year, 146 teams, some having travelled a fair distance from across Sussex, Kent and Surrey, took part and it was great to see a fully competitive U12 Girls competition played out between six clubs, included local teams from Crowborough Athletic and St John’s Primary School.
Both teams performed exceptionally well but lost out eventually to a very strong team from Eastbourne Ladies and Girls FC.
In recognition of the high profile nature of the Fiesta, the Club were pleased to welcome the Mayor, Councillor Ron Reid, who presented trophies to the team's on Saturday afternoon.
The Mayor also took time out to praise the efforts of all the volunteers involved who ensured this large event ran smoothly whilst also acknowledging Crowborough Athletic's continuing drive to maintain its position at the heart of the community, thus ensuring young people are given the opportunity to play, learn, experience and enjoy participating in our national game.
On Sunday, the Club were joined by representatives from the Sussex County FA, who also passed on their congratulations to the Fiesta Committee for ‘organising a very enjoyable well run festival’.
At the climax of proceedings for the U7 and U8 age groups and In the spirit of encouraging participation, all boys and girls received commemorative medals, the smile on their faces was there for all to see.
The rest of the age groups had to battle it out against stiff competition to determine who won the right to lift the winners trophy. After playing some fantastic football the following teams gratefully accepted the accolades and honours:
Under 12 Girls winners: Eastbourne Ladies and Girls FC
Under 9 winners: Style Soccer
Under 10 winners: Style Soccer
Under 11 winners: Select Youth
Under 12 winners: Furngate Youth White
Under 13 winners: Hastings Town Greens
Under 14 winners: Tonbridge Junior Spitfires
The Fiesta Committee would like to thank everyone who helped over the two days and for all the teams for participating in the event and making it a great success once again.
