When Dutch Korfballing superstar Leon Simons came to Wales...

Earlier in the year, ex-dutch international, Leon Simons visited Wales to deliver some training clinics, assisted by Dankmar Caderius Van Veen, to the Welsh National Squad and the Welsh Development Squad.

Cardiff University Korfball Club was delighted to have 7 of its members within those teams, not including their head coach and some ex-CUKC members!

First team Captain Jo Nash and Head Coach William Hayward participated as part of the current National Squad. In addition to this: Suzy Stanbury, Maria Clements, Grace McKay, Alex Morgan, James Wilcox and Pat Merton were invited to attend as members of the Development Squad.

The aim of the session was to deliver top-class coaching and develop Korfball within Wales. With so many of the university's players going through the Development Squad we hope to have a large proportion of ex-players representing Wales at the highest level of the sport!

The sessions took place over two days with the initital 'Wales' coaching session on the Saturday and an open session on the Sunday for all Korfball players in Wales.

The event was a huge success and we would like to thank the WKA, and especially Ruth Campbell, for organising it. Hopefully this focus on development will continue and one day who knows, maybe Wales will be better than England!

Photographs of the training session involving the Wales players is now on the site, including shots of CUKC players:
