A team of players sadly leaving the club challenged the rest of us to an honourary final game...

During the last session of the season there was a Korfball match like no other before it. It was a match of an epic scale (we used a full sized pitch!) and the stakes were high. The pride of veteran Cardiff University players was staked against the new blood coming through the ranks in the penultimate game of the year.

Leavers 2012 vs. Cardiff University

On Team Leavers were some of the club's greatest players of previous years featuring Jonquil Nash (The International), Pat Merton (The Legend) and Jane Hutchinson (The Banter). There were also the likes of Suzy Stanbury (MIA during exams) with Pavel Pyszko (Sadly leaving for a year until his glorious return) and Alec Care (the relative newbie in this seasoned team). Also, just to mix things up a little they decided to field a FUTURE player of Cardiff University, throwing the rule book out of the window completely and playing Matthew Wilcox (The Prodigy) who will, in a year and a bit, be playing for us hopefully!

On Team 'Stickers'?, dubiously named by Jo, was James Wilcox, Amin Elkhawad, Rhys Watson, Jordan Evans, Grace McKay, Sarah Goring and Abby Walker. Some experience from players such as Sarah, Jordan and Amin, and first team players in James, Grace and Rhys. Abby is certainly a rising talent within the club and we can expect big things from her next year!

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the game as an end to the season, with the added bonus of playing on a normal sized Korfball pitch for a change. Team Leavers smashed it on the day coming away with twice as many goals in an 8 - 4 victory. It's a shame to be losing such talented players and good friends but we'll be looking to rebuild as always and this final experience is good to show the level which we aim to acheive.
