Culcheth Open Age continued their pre season preparations with a friendly against local rivals Leigh Miners A, with Miners placed in Division 2 –three divisions above Culcheth – the Eagles were ready for the challenge.
A high intensity opening ten minutes saw both sides giving nothing, it was Eagles that broke through first with a powerful run from forward Tom
Blohm proving too much for the Miners defence as he charged over the line.
Miners applied the pressure and showed good support play as Eagles took their foot of the gas, and lost focus giving Miners the chances to cross for three tries before half time to make it 6 – 16 in the visitors favour.
Eagles showed more structure in the second half and started to let the ball work for them scoring a further three (Wilde, Foster & Standish), this combined with some strong defensive work, keeping the visitors to one more score, made for a nail biting finish again.
