Cullompton RFC have won the Devon Senior Plate as Paignton pull out of the final

The Cup game on Sunday May 1st has been cancelled as Paignton have pulled out due to the fact they have stated ‘They cannot raise a competitive side’. This is down to unavailability due to a stag weekend. This is even though Paignton have a 1st team game on the Saturday 30th against Torquay and a 2nd team game against Barnstaple. It also sounds like their end of season party that night will be a little light on numbers as well.

This means that Cullompton have won the Devon Senior Plate. This is after they have only played one cup game this season and lost to Exmouth. This then put them through to the Devon Senior Plate where they were meant to play Sidmouth, who cried off as they couldn’t raise a side either. This put Cullompton RFC in the final. Paignton lost to Barnstaple in their Devon Cup game and then had a buy to the final when Ivybridge couldn’t raise a side. This means that The Devon Senior Plate has been won by Cullompton RFC and not one game has been played in that side of the cup.

Surely Devon RFU will have to look in to the make up of the competitions and possibly look at how to stop teams pulling out so easily as it does seem to be a little farcical that we have won the Plate even though we have played one game and lost!

This also means more importantly that the club has not signed off the season as we would have liked and lost another home game, Ivybridge along with Sidmouth have pulled out this season against us at home, and the revenue that brings into the club.

With this in mind Cullompton RFC will be holding a club day on Sunday May 1st for all involved at the club to celebrate the end of the season. Further details are to follow very shortly.

So do not re-arrange your Sunday this weekend as Stafford Park will still be the place to be.
