Cults pass Grammar test

Cults Cosalt 169 all out, Grammar FPs 63 all out

CULTS Cosalt captain Masud Javaid and batsman Ajay Inducudan were the stars of the show as their side overcame Aberdeen Grammar FPs in Saturday’s Grade 1 match at Allan Park.

Asked to bat first, Cults started solidly but three quick wickets, including the loss of opener Ed Spearman (25), placed them in some trouble. Ajay Induchudan and Debo Barman (21) consolidated for a spell but Barman’s loss lead to a further three wickets, and left Cults struggling at 110 for 7. With the hosts in danger of being shot out for a sub-standard total, Induchudan’s second successive 60 and Vignesh Krishnamoorthy, with 19, fought back to post a competitive score of 169 all out.

Ally MacDonald and ex-Scotland bowler Jerry Moir picked up two wickets each for FPs.

In response, Grammar looked to be on course at 50 for 1, with skipper Ronald Knudson (21) and Tabrez Malik (15) in good form. However, when Malik was dismissed it triggered the start of an amazing batting collapse and the FPs innings was soon closed on 63 all out.

Javaid’s bowling yielded an amazing return of six wickets for only two runs as the visitors’ batting was ultimately ripped apart. Rahul Meghani also took two wickets in what was a great win for Cults after being in a precarious position earlier in the match.

With Bon Accord being held to a draw by bottom-placed Kintore, the Cults victory means the gap to the top of the table has been closed.
