This week the Cougars played host to Marr and with a couple of wins at their back the boys were ready for anything. Normally Marr would dominate the game but with some hard work in training Cumnock showed they are a match for any team.
Marr were first to get on the score sheet with some missed tackles from Cumnock they managed to get the ball wide and with a man over score the try right in the corner. Cumnock were not long in answering back with great work from the forwards, who dominated Marr at every scrum and ruck, they drove Marr back towards their own line and with a combined effort from Alistair Birrell and Daryl McCulloch Cumnock were awarded the next try.
With both teams starting the second half strongly it was a constant battle for possession and the play was from end to end. Marr were the next to run in a try but with no conversion it kept the score close. It wasn't long before Cumnock were on the front foot again, with the Cougars awarded a scrum in their own half, the ball was passed out along the line and with the attack play moving strongly forward, Calum Park took the pass and with some impressive turning and spinning managed to run through the Marr line and score right between the posts. With a conversion from J Smith it brought the score back to a draw.
But Marr were not finished and with some very tired Cumnock boys they managed to break Cumnock’s defence and score the final try of the game. Well done to the boys who played some outstanding rugby and thoroughly entertained the watching crowd.
