Alloa/Alva 0 Cumnock U18 Girls 56
Report by Mark Linden
The much depleted u18 girls squad set off early on sunday to travel north to play Alloa/Alva academy in the national bowl competition.
With only ten players travelling it was a makeshift team with almost everyone playing out of position. This didn't worry the girls and after there pre-match they were eager for the challenge. On a very heavy pitch cumnock kicked -off and pressured the opposition into an early mistake from the resulting scrum and some slick passing Cumnock took the lead.
This settled early nerves and the team continued to dominate ,winning their lineout, scrum and first up tackling was of the highest standard. Caitlin Reilly and Tara Wallace were relentless both on and off the ball and leading from the front with Caitlin being awarded player of the match. The girls were piling on the pressure again, running in another 3 well made tries made the half time score 20 nil.
After the break Alloa/Alva tried to play a tighter game but to no avail the Cumnock girls turning over their rucks and ripping ball from malls to continue their domination and putting in some big tackles. The game was all Cumnock and the opposition had no reply, Cumnock were reaping the benefit of all the hard work they have applied at training and ran in another six tries and three conversions, the game finishing 56-0. With the heavy and cold conditions this was a very well earned victory, the forwards being dominant and the backs managing to pass the ball around as well as they did under the circumstances made for a very good performance and with everyone playing there roll can be proud of their efforts.
The Try Scorers were Tara 1, Laura 1, Julie 1 and 2 conversions, Nicola 3, Rachel 2 and 1 conversion, Bronwyn 1, Chloe 1.
Girls S1-U18 training is on at Cumnock Academy Astroturf on Thursdays from 6pm-7pm. Newcomers always welcome.
