Cumnock Minis Away to Whitecraigs
Primary 4 Report By Mark McMenemy
The P4 team that travelled to Whitecraigs consisted of Jasmine Scott, Liam Bradely, Hamilton Walsh, Lori Walsh, Logan Black, Nathan Conway, Luke Milligan, Billy Dalzell & Ross McMenemy.
Following on from last week's match the team yet again came up against a well organised and comitted side. Whitecraigs were clearly up for it from the first whistle and Cumnock were slow to respond initially. However, they eventually switched on and started to get into the game and following solid tackles and some strong running pushed the home team all the way, with Nathan, Hamilton and Ross going over to score for Cumnock.
In the second of three games Cumnock again were slow to get into the game and the homeside made them pay for some sloppy defending. However, following intervention and guidance from the coach they re-gained their shape and started to compete against their opponents. Following some strong tackling and increased pressure on Whitecraigs line Billy managed to squeeze over to score.
The third game saw the homeside apply further pressure on the Cumnock line and a lack of concentration allowed Whitecraigs to run straight through to score. However, Cumnock refused to give up and they continued to compete and made Whitecraigs work hard for everything.
The team continues to evolve and all the players appear to be enjoying the busy fixture list; hopefully the experience of playing in matches will boost confidence in the team and will aid their ongoing development and understanding of the game.
Primary 5 Report by Sharon Adrian
Thomas Adrain, Daniel Anderson, Luke Donald, Andrew Dunlop, Ross Pryce, Kerr Robson, and Lewis Young.
Arrived at Whitecraigs on a bright Sunday morning. From the off Cumnock were full of vigor. Great run from the tap with good hands and tackles. “Lightening Luke” managed a good steal resulting in the first try of many. Strong drives throughout the game from Thomas, Kai, Andy and Ross. Cumnock kept the pressure up with some good passing resulting in two further tries leaving Cumnock with a healthy lead at the first third. Second third showed good determination and Cumnock burst through Whitecraigs defence for a try by Lewis. With Cumnock's vigor they were driving Whitecraigs back to their half all the time and at the line out Andy popped the ball over for another try. Strong tackles from Kai, Thomas and Ross, Lewis, Luke and Andy resulting in some great turnover of balls. Final third, again showed promise as Cumnock kept the pressure on Whitecraigs, two strong tries from Lewis and Luke. Unfortunately five tries were disallowed because of not having two hands on the ball. Cumnock were constantly bursting through Whitecraigs defence for many tries resulting in a final score and another victory for Cumnock Cougars. Whitecraigs 4 - Cumnock 13.
Dont forget Primary 4/5 training continues at Catrine Games Hall on Wednesday nights between 7-8pm.
Primary 7 Report by Morton Houston
A glorious day, parks in great condition and a brilliant game to watch, what more could you ask for. The P7 time served up another cracker against a big, strong and fast Whitecraigs team. 3 games were played with a draw, a win and a loss for Cumnock.
Whitecraigs 4 Cumnock 1
Despite the score Cumnock played really well in this game. The tackled and harassed their bigger opponents and failed narrowly to score on a number of occasions. Wallace Finlay was the star of this first game as rampaged through the Whitecraigs ranks. Cumnock made life hard for themselves by slipping off a few tackles giving the score a slightly skewed look in Whitecraigs favour.
Whitecraigs 1 Cumnock 3
The second game saw a turn around in fortunes as the Cumnock players tackled their hearts out. Whitecraigs offloaded superbly but were pushed back again and again by ferocious tackling. A tries from Jamie Kennedy, one from Andy Houston and one from Owen Young saw Cumnock to a tidy win.
Whitecraigs 2 Cumnock 2
Cumnock again made things hard for themselves in this game as the missed 2 crucial tackles to go 2 – 0 down. However they stuck in and started to play the ball wider. Jamie Kennedy went close on 2 occasions before Wallace Finlay powered over. At the death Jamie Kennedy broke free to score the equaliser in the corner despite a despairing tackle by a Whitecraigs player.
Coach Alan Montgomery commented after the game, “The boys played some cracking rugby. We are a small, fast and fit team and we are trying to move the ball about the pitch to stretch other teams. The boys are starting to come to grips with this attractive style of rugby. I am absolutely sure that by the end of the year we will be a real force to be reckoned with.
