Cumnock Minis report vs Whitecraigs
Cumnock gives Whitecraigs a performance on a winters day.
Primary 4 Report by Mark McMenemy
The P4 team that welcomed Whitecraigs to Cumnock consisted of Jasmine Scott, Liam Bradely, Hamilton Walsh, Logan Black, Nathan Conway, Luke Milligan & Ross McMenemy.
This was the first outing of the year for the P4's and indeed their first game for a considerable time.
Whitecraigs started the first of three games and it was apparent that they were clearly motivated to take the game to Cumnock at every opportunity. Cumnock for their part got stuck in and there were some great tackles from Nathan and Logan with Hamilton driving at the Whitecraigs line on a number of ocassions.
In the second game Cumnock started well and made some strong runs attaking the Whitecraigs line, again solid tackling from all the team made Whitecraigs work hard to retain the ball. The cold weather was starting to take it's toll on all the players and Cumnock lost a couple of players as a result of such.
Nevertheless, in the final game Cumnock competed well straight from the off and put their visitors under increased pressure, again there were a number of great tackles with Cumnock refusing to allow Whitecraigs any time on the ball. On the day Ross, Nathan and Hamilton went over to score for Cumnock.
This was the first match for a while for the squad and some of the players were slow to get going, however, they all got involved and competed well throughout and it was great to see the team compete right to the final whistle.
The bitterly cold conditions did not help today, so lets hope for better conditions next week when the team are away to Marr.
Primary 5 Report by Sharon Adrian
P5 team was Thomas Adrain, Luke Donald, Andrew Dunlop, Lori Walsh, Lewis Young.
Cumnock welcomed Whitecraigs on a winters day. The players were all quick to warm up and get ready to play especially as it was cold, Cumnock were a player down so Whitecraigs Rory stepped up to play for Cumnock. Andrew and Luke were captain’s today. Great strength from the off was shown from both sides however Cumnock soon showed they were not going to be beat on home ground. Very strong runs from Lewis, Luke, Andrew, Thomas all scoring fantastic tries. Tackling was quick and effective and kept Whitecraigs well back throughout the game. Whitecraigs had a couple of good runners allowing them to score some fast tries, however Cumnock were quick on the defence and managed to turn over a few balls, Andrew managed a great steal and a try from the half way line. Thomas took a dive through Whitecraigs defence like they were skittles, he was quick to pass to Luke who ran the ball over the line. Lewis was quick off the mark from a lovely run by Lori who met with Whitecraigs defence and he was able to dodge through and score a few tries. Cumnock played so well especially as it was the first game after the Festive period and continued their winning streak. Final score Cumnock 16 - Whitecraigs 8.
Primary 6 Report by Alex Young

Primary 7 Report by Morton Houston
Cumnock took on Glasgow rivals Whitecraigs on a day where being able to play defied the odds. Despite chill temperatures and flurries of snow earlier in the day the game went ahead in near perfect conditions.
Cumnock pulled off one of their best performances of the season managing a win against a team that narrowly beat them on the last meeting. Cumnock’s performance was full of grit and skill. In the first half they should some really encouraging phases of play with some excellent off loading. This led to a 2-1 advantage thanks to tries from Jamie Drummond and Wallace Findlay. The advantage could have been more as Cumnock failed to take advantage of some clear overlaps and Andy Houston was denied for a marginal knock on as he went over.
The second half saw an ever better Cumnock performance as they punched holes through the “craigs’ defence before passing wide to score. There were some terrific tackling performances from players such as Adam “killa” Watt, Kieran Owens, Jamie Caldwell and Matt Montgomery whilst Owen Young, Finlay Robertson, Andrew Houston and Rob Drummond ran the show with skilful ball distribution. Added to this was the powerful running of Ashley Popowicz, Wallace Finlay and Jamie Drummond. Special mention should go to newer players Regan Stirling and Kieran Owens who continue to show real promise for the future.
Tries from Houston, Drummond and Watt left coach Billy Ramsay with a smile on his face. After the game he said, “There is a real transformation in this team. They are no longer playing like individuals but are now playing like a team. Their defensive organisation and their ability to move the ball wide means they are very difficult to beat. Added to this is their ferocious tackling, aggressive counter rucking and desire to win the ball on the ground. All in all I am very satisfied with how they are developing.”
The final score was 5-2 to Cumnock and the man of the match, although very close, was given to Wallace Finlay for his aggressive runs and ability to offload the ball in the tackle.
Any P6 or P7 who is interested in playing rugby should come along to training on Wednesday nights at 6:30 – 8:00 at Cumnock Academy astro parks. Everyone is welcome. Contact number Morton Houston 07794 899515.
Next week Cumnock minis are playing at Troon against Marr minis and Stirling minis. The meet time is 10:15 at Marr Rugby Club or 9:45 at Cumnock Rugby Club where a yellow bus and cars will be leaving. Coaches will advise if there are any changes. The back up plan if the weather closes in is training at Catrine games hall at 11am on the Sunday.
