Over the past few months Cumnock RFC girls’ team have been tirelessly fundraising for their up and coming Easter Tour to Newcastle.
Their planned visit is to Tynedale RFC for 2 matches, being guard of honour at the Newcastle Falcons v Jersey match on Friday night, attending a training session and a stadium tour on Sunday and a few other planned activities.
They would like to thank everyone who has supported or attended a function. Local businesses for their support with vouchers and prizes and special thanks to On-Site Health Services, Cat Finning, Carrick Alloys, Kerr & Smith, Highlander and Cw Print & Embroidery for the sponsorships and supply of all our tour kit and clothing.
In preparation for our games against the auld enemy we had had several fixtures allowing us to sharpen up our skills!!

Auchterarder u15 v Cumnock u15
22 - 14
Auchterarder u18 v Cumnock u18
10 - 0

These were two very tough matches, both opposition teams featuring in the national cup finals, Cumnock girls playing well against possibly the best in the country. Certainly showing that they are able to compete at the highest level, giving the Auchterarder teams a good run for their money in two very close run matches. Under 15 player Lucy Watt suffered a broken collar bone in her match and everyone wishes her a speedy recovery.

Stewartry V Cumnock
26 - 46

Cumnock travelled to Castle Douglas on a very cold Monday night for there next game against a much larger and more physical team. Cumnock played possibly some of their best rugby here running the opposition all over the pitch, using the quick ball at every opportunity to tire there opponents and taking full advantage to finish comfortable winners. This was a great result and the girls showed that they are a force to be reckoned with.

Scotstoun 7's Festival

The new home of the Glasgow Warriors was a fantastic venue for the girls to play and show what they had been working hard at in training and they did not disappoint. The u15 squad winning all 4 games in there section quite comfortably and then playing Hillhead/Jordanhill in the final who had also been unbeaten through their section. The final living up to all expectation, in a very competitive and physical encounter with Cumnock just being edged out four tries to three, the team could hold their heads high .Bronwyn, Rachel S, Rachael C Melanie, Sarah, Heather, Abigail, Niamh and Eva.

The under 18 team had a mixed bag with two wins against Ayr and a draw and a loss to Dumfries in the round robin resulting in all three teams being tied and with Ayr and Dumfries having a high scoring game they would play each other as a final. The Cumnock team had performed well after the early setback of losing Tara Wallace to a serious knee injury while tackling a much larger opponent showing her usual fearlessness. The girls had competed well over the four matches and were certainly the most organised and relentless on and off the ball, another good afternoons rugby .Ayisha, Tara, Stacey, Terri, Rowan, Caitlin, Chloe ,Hayley, Julie and Laura doing the coaches and club proud again.

Cumnock 17 Gordon Schools Huntly 37

Played on the back pitches at Murrayfield this was a very special occasion for the team and the club, for the third season out of four the under 18 team were competing in a national final. With both teams trading early mistakes, the nerves possibly taking hold. Cumnock swooped into action and from a very strong forward surge the ball was spun wide through the hands and Laura Paton was in for the first score and with captain Julie McCreath converting the nerves settled with a 7 v 0 lead .this woke up the opposition and they staged a sustained period of pressure on the Cumnock try line and in quick succession scored three very well worked tries against a dogged Cumnock defence with one being converted the half time score was 7 v 17.
Some encouraging words at half time from the coach Cumnock started the second half in what can only be described as rampant and within 20 minutes with another score from Laura Paton and a first ever try for Stacey Wight the scores were level. Gordon Schools made three changes and the fresh legs and the Cumnock excursions taking hold, three tries and a conversion were added by Gordon Schools. Cumnock had played on the front foot for much of the game and were a great credit to themselves their coaches their club and the girls game in general making what most though the game off the night with a large crowd watching proceedings, the girls received their runners-up medals and Laura Paton being chosen as Cumnock player of the match by the competition sponsors. Coach Elizabeth commented it had been another good strong performance by all the girls giving 100% and with a team reshuffle on the day due to the ever growing injury list it had been no mean effort well-done
