Cumnock started the stronger team with the scrum and line-outs functioning well with Blair McMillan
being able to connect with balls thrown in by paul miller
. The Cumnock forwards also moved the ball through the phases of rugby with quick running to all break downs which helped set up the first try. After a number of passes, David Kerr
ran through a number of Clydebank players in the 22 to score an easy try. Ross McPheators scored the conversion straight in front the posts.
The Clydebank team then started moving the ball forward, which made both teams moving the ball from end to end of the pitch after quick running from both teams. Clydebank did get a penalty and scored a couple of tries with Clydebank leading 15-7. Cumnock made a few tactical moves in postitions including the return of Kenny Lorimer
and Gavin Hannah coming off the bench and helping in all the positions.
Cumnock then started and controlling the ball again. Scott Houston
took a run towards the corner and was just short, but Blair McMillan
was following up and went across the line. Unfortunately the strong wind against Cumnock made it impossible to score the conversion.
Clydebank followed with a penalty infront the posts after a Cumnock infringement which left the game 18-12 towards the end of the game. Cumnock did advance for again after a number of phases of passes a platform was made for Scott Houston
to score from a pass in the opposition 22. Cumnock couldn’t make the conversion which left the score 18-17 with a couple of minutes left. Clydebank held out from that position for the win.
