Cumnock 2nd XV 24 Annan 2nd XV 5
Cumnock 2nds came into this game after a number of postponements and now have a run of 5 home games.
Cumnock started the brightest with Jamie Thomson coming down after Cumnock forwards retained the ball from ruck and passed through a couple of phases and punched through a number of tackles to score on right hand side of pitch within 2 minutes of start for a 5-0 lead.
If Cumnock thought this was going to be an easy game Annan were not for giving one. Both sets of teams took goes and keeping the ball going the right direction which made a number of stalemates. It took until Cumnock used its well developed pods of attacking that Cumnock got some forward momentum and from a series of phases Joe Bennett took ball from back, broke a number of players and scored in the corner.
Annan came back in reply when Cumnock had a lapse in concentration after scoring the try and scored down in the left corner after passing it through their players. This made score 10-5 to Cumnock.
Both teams kept attacking but Cumnock were next to be on the score sheet, Steven “jungle” Lowrie scored himself after the ball was worked through a series of passes, rucks & mauls which Cumnock developed to score below near the posts. Martin Thomson scored the conversion.
Jamie Thomson came back late in the half to score another try when he got through Annan defence from the scrum to score near the posts again for the bonus point try. Martin Thomson made conversion again to make it 24-5 to Cumnock. Both teams made for rest of game went to and fro with the ball but no more scores were done in the game.
Man of the match was Michael Burnside for his hard produced throughout Saturday on the pitch. Cumnock 2nd XV face Hamilton 3rd XV at Broomfield with kick off 3pm in this crucial run in to end of season.
