Ladies History

A brief history of Curzon Ashton Ladies

The club was founded in March1988 as Oldham Athletic Ladies FC and began playing in the North West Women's League in 1990. Several promotions were won over the following seasons and the club set up youth squads. In 1998 they moved to Ashton-under-Lyne and changed their name to Oldham Curzon Ladies FC.

1998-99 saw a third-placed finish in the club's first season in the Northern Combination. Then in 1999-00 Oldham Curzon won the Northern Combination and the following season saw it achieve its ultimate ambition gaining promotion to the Premier League Northern Division.

In 2000-01 Oldham Curzon were runners-up to Leeds United exceeding all expectations. They then finished third in the following two seasons. In 2003-04 and 2004-05 the club finished lower down the league.

2005 season the club name changed to Curzon Ashton Ladies FC and they moved to their current ground at the Tameside Stadium. Performances did not improve and the club flirted with relegation in 2005-06 and dropped back into the Northern Combination in 2007.

2007-08 Curzon won the Northern Combination losing only one game and sealing the title with a 15-0 home win over Hull City Ladies. Dave Ryan the ladies manager decided to step down after 20 years service in women's football.

In 2008-09 Mark Bradshaw took over as manager and led the club to Premier League Northern Division safety that season with Curzon finishing in tenth position.

2009-10 the team had a mixed start to the season, after nearly a 4 month enforced break due to the poor weather Curzon re-commenced their league fixtures with renewed determination they went on a six match unbeaten run, finishing in 5th place. Curzon also had a good Women's FA Cup run going out in the quarter-final stages narrowly losing 2-1 to Aston Villa LFC.

2010-11 Season was an extremely difficult one at the club both on & off the pitch. Mark stepped down as manager in the January & Luke Turner took over the reins until the end of the season. Sadly poor results meant Curzon found themselves at the foot of the table for much of the season and relegation from the Northern Premier League.
