Curzon were unchanged or the third game in a row and they are rapidly growing into a formidable side, paying good football going forwards and battling and digging in when necessary when put under pressure.
In this game Garforth began at a lively pace and for the first three minutes or so the ball was hardly out of the Curzon half, but the Blues weathered the early storm and it was the home keeper who was first forced into action, saving low to his right off Chris McDonagh following a quick Curzon break.
In the eighth minute Kris Dennis received a pass in a central position but he couldn’t quite get the ball under control and Higginson snatched the ball off his toes.
The opening goal came on 17 minutes and it was a stunner for Matty Kay to open his Curzon account, sending a dipping volley over the stranded Higginson with a superb strike.
The lead only lasted two minutes though as Curzon conceded their first goal this season, after 200 minutes of football and they will be disappointed at the way it was conceded, Peter Collinge spilling a low cross with Matt Mathers forcing the ball home.
Curzon went back on the attack and Matthew Purcell appeared to be brought down from behind for what looked like a nailed on penalty but the referee waved away the appeals and then at the other end Collnge redeemed himself for his earlier error by tipping over a vicious shot from Ashley Westcarr.
Curzon were back in the lead just after the half hour mark. The home defence failed to deal effectively with a free kick taken from the right and the ball fell to Purcell who drove it back through the crowded box to make the score 2-1.
Garforth almost conjured up a second equaliser two minutes later. A free kick by Hotchkiss almost deceived Collinge, but the Curzon keeper just managed to get a touch on the ball to divert it onto the bar, the ball bouncing down on the line before the Blues defence hacked it clear.
The second half began with Collinge making a routine save at his near post and then Matty Kay was just off target for Curzon, but as the half wore on, the game developed into a midfield battle with chances at a premium. Connor Hampson saw Higginson turn his curling cross over the bar and Kris Dennis produced a fresh air shot after some terrific work by McDonagh wide on the right and Garforth responded with Paul Walker sending an acrobatic shot too high, but after that neither keeper was really troubled until the dying moments when Curzon’s Sam Walker had to clear off his goal line following a scramble in the box but Curzon held on to record third successive win.
