Barbara Murray T20 Trophy

On Thursday 18th June 2009, Cutthorpe Cricket club held the inaugural Barbara Murray Trophy.

The late Barbara Murray was a hard working and well-respected club member who was involved with the club for many years, latterly working as club sectary. Barbara made a big impact on all who met her but especially her family and all involved with Cutthorpe Cricket Club, it is testimony to her love of the club that all her children are still involved in Cutthorpe Cricket Club either playing or as club officers.

The Barbara Murray Trophy is a charity T20 game, with the proceeds going to 'The Primary Club'. Thursday the 18th of June 2009 saw the inaugural Barbara Murray Trophy charity event take place. It is worthy of note that this was also the first Primary Club charity event held outside of London. All players who participated in the match joined 'The Primary Club' as a way of raising funds.

For those who aren' aware of what 'The Primary Club' is or does, 'The Primary Club' is the cricketers' charity that raises money to provide sports and recreational facilities for the visually impaired. The charity is supported by current England test Captain Andrew Strauss and he is presently President of 'The Primary Club'.

The night was a huge success, with a large crowd coming to see a Cutthorpe Cricket Club Select XI play against a Richard Butcher Select XI. It was only fitting that Cutthorpe Cricket Club would win the first ever Barbara Murray Trophy.

Special thanks must go out to all that helped set up and run this event, all the Murray Family members, Richard Butcher for organising a team, all the players and finally all the supports who came to watch. Hopefully all enjoyed an excellent night in celebration of Barbara Murray and also helped a very worthy cause along the way.
