Club Information

A brief description of our club and its history.

Although unsure of the exact year of foundation for Dafen Welfare Bowls Club we know that it was originally closed in 1963 after many years of playing, and reformed in 1987 by some of the current members who found some old bowls and were looking to fill their football close season time and it all took off from that Saturday afternoon back in 1987.
The green had deteriorated to an awful state but with the hard graft and many many hours of dedicated work by the park keeper "Mr Kevin Howells", he being an experienced bowler with Park Howard, he slowly brought the green back to its former glory. A meeting was arranged and the Dafen Bowls Club was reformed under the chairmanship of Mr Gordon Richards. The club were sucessful in gaining membership to the Llanelli and District Bowls League for the 1988 season. Kevin being Dafen born and bred felt so strong about the village green that he left the Park Howard club to join Dafen and help the club with his bowling experience and was nominated its first Captain.Over the years Dafen have played in the lower divisions of the league and and have a number of really talented bowlers amongst their membership.Currently affiliated to the Welsh Bowling Association(WBA)and Carmarthen County Bowling Association(CCBA).
The CCBA are one of ten County Bowling Associations that make up the Welsh Bowling Association.
Dafen welfare are members of the Llanelli district and bowling league which consists of four divisions and thirty three teams, and are currently in the second division of the Llanelli league after gaining promotion from the third division in 2010 as champions. They also have a veterans section who play in the Dinefwr and District League predominantly played on Thursday afternoons.
