Katy who has recently taken up a full time professional contact with the RFU picked up the award on the back of leading the England Rugby Women’s team to a historic World Cup victory in France earlier this year. In what was an exceptionally successful year for North East Sport she had to fight off some strong competition to claim the award which was presented last night at the Forum Theatre in Billingham.

This year has seen Katy receive an MBE as an ambassador of the game, win a World Cup and receive the recent BBC award amongst others. It perhaps doesn’t stop there as Katy along with team mate Tamara Taylor, another Mowden World Cup winner, are short listed for the prestigious mainstream BBC Sports Team of the year award that is announced live on BBC 1 on the 14th December.
