Our opponents this weekend are Wharfedale RFC, who travel the relatively short distance from ‘The Avenue’ HQ, nr.Skipton. for the first time.

Wharfedale RFC are currently lying in 10th place in the league table, with 31 points (including 6 try bonus points and 1 losing bonus point) all gained by winning 6 and losing 8 games.

The four point cushion they enjoy over DMPRFC, who are in 14th place, highlights how small the margins are in this league.

A total of only 7 points separate 7 clubs from 8th place to DMPRFC in 14th place, with Cinderford RFC in 15th, only a further 2 points behind. Only Macclesfield RFC are seemingly cut off at the bottom with 6 points, however, they are by no means finished and will have a big influence in determining what happens to the fortunes of clubs in 2015.

If any team in that mix can string together a couple of wins, with a bonus point or two, then mid table or even higher is certainly achievable – fingers crossed !!

Wharfedale RFC ‘s top points scorer is Tom Davidson with 86 points (1 try, 24 conversions and 11 penalties) and top try scorer is Josh Burridge with 6 tries.

In the meeting between the clubs on the second league game on the season back in September, Wharfedale RFC won 32 – 18 at Threshfield, in a game they deserved to win and DMPRFC will be anxious to redress the balance, this time hopefully keeping a full complement of players on the field - 4 yellows, 1 red on that occasion – all technical offences).

Last weekend, Wharfedale RFC’s home game against Esher RFC was a casualty of the cold weather, with a snowbound pitch resulting in a cancelled game.

DMPRFC made the long trip to Old Albanians RFC, but 2 tries from winger Jamie BARNARD, a try for lock Rob CONQUEST, together with a conversion from fly half Tom HODGSON and another 2 from replacement fly half Grant CONNON, were not enough to claw back the home team, who prevailed 29 – 21.

The loss of powerful lock Talite VAIOLETI with a calf injury early in the game was a blow for DMPRFC and the injury will probably keep him on the sidelines for this game against one of his former clubs.

In this last game of 2014, it is hoped that everyone attending will be entertained by the rugby on show and on behalf of all concerned at Darlington Mowden Park RFC, a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone !!
