DARLINGTON LADIES RFC WIN QBE RUGBY PRO COMPETITION
Darlington RFC Ladies celebrate the news that its players will train with Premiership Rugby stars after QBE announced the winners of Rugby Pro competition
The Darlington RFC women’s side will be training with Newcastle Falcons courtesy of QBE, Official Business Insurance Partner of Premiership Rugby. They are one of twelve grassroots rugby clubs across the country to be awarded a training session with top Premiership Rugby players and coaches, as well as £1,000 worth of training equipment. The QBE Rugby Pro training sessions will offer specialist advice on technical and physical rugby skills which have been identified by each winning club as areas for their improvement
QBE, the specialist in business insurance, awarded the prizes to clubs who demonstrated how winning the training session and equipment would benefit the development of the club. The judges were impressed by Darlington’s community spirit and their commitment to introducing more women to the sport. Their enthusiasm and ambition to gain promotion also shone through in their entry.
Lindsay Evans, a key member of Darlington RFC’s women’s side, said: “We are so proud to win this fantastic prize. At Darlington we are constantly trying to grow our player base by increasing the number of female participants in rugby. It will undoubtedly reward and benefit our existing squad of players and coaches to train with professionals from Newcastle Falcons.”
Cath Timberlake, Commercial Manager of QBE’s Leeds operation, said: “We are delighted that Darlington RFC has won. Their entry was a great example of how sport helps inspire the community, and we hope that the contribution of a specialist training session and new equipment from QBE will help the club to develop and introduce more people to the game.”
In its second year, and going from strength to strength, the competition was judged by a panel which included members of the media, Premiership Rugby and QBE.
