Following a specially convened Extraordinary General Meeting of Darlington RFC (DRFC) members, it was agreed that the best interests of DRFC, and sport in Darlington, were served by approving a groundshare arrangement with Darlington FC. The vote results were:
In Favour - 80.28%
Against - 19.72%
The meeting was opened and chaired by Michael Wilkinson, DRFC Chairman, with directors contributing, where relevant. It is acknowledged that serious concerns still exist amongst the membership including:
The DRFC Board of Directors (BoD) are sensitive to those concerns and every effort will be made to ensure the effect is minimal.
The BoD would also like to express their excitement at the proposals ahead and the development of Blackwell Meadows. This is a big step towards creating a community sports hub for the whole town to be proud of and in turn encourage more people to take up forms of the game of rugby, e.g. O2 Touch.
More details will be released in due course and if you have any questions, please feel free to speak with/contact a member of the Board. The hard work starts now and we encourage anyone who wishes to be get involved to make themselves known.
Please stay with us and help us make the most of this exciting opportunity.
