THREE HAT TRICK HEROES !

by

A hat trick each for Rob Illingworth and Joel Tyler and a five goal haul from Matty Wilson saw the U11s into the next round of the TJFA League Cup

The magic of the cup saw a one sided win for TSC U11's (sponsored by Holiways Ford) on a difficult, narrow pitch. Great credit should go to the under strength Kirk Merrington side, who never gave up and were a great credit to their coaches and club.

TSC took the lead when the battling Andrew Naisbitt won the ball well in midfield and passed well out to the right wing, finding Robert Illingworth. Rob beat his man well and crossed into the box for Matthew Wilson to slot home at the back post to make it 0:1! TSC nearly scored again when Jonathan Parr was fouled and a Matty Wilson free-kick was saved well by the keeper.

The TSC defence was cutting out any Kirk Merrington pressure with Joshua Young, William Curtis, Robert Hardy and Ben Thurlbeck all tackling well and then playing good passes into midfield. Will Curtis breaking well and unleashing a thunderbolt drive that was inches wide of the post. Matty then found Rob Illingworth on the right and another great cross was finished well by Callum Rankin (0:2). Jonny and Matty then combined well to set-up Euan Lee Shields for a drive into the bottom corner to make it 0:3. Rob Hardy then won the ball and held off his man before passing out to the wing. Rob Illingworth beat his man, cut inside before firing a fabulous shot into the bottom left hand corner to make it 0:4.

The home side were shell-shocked at this stage with TSC firing in the fifth when Jonny Parr played a good ball across the area for Matty to convert at the front post. It was 0:6 when Jonny again crossed for Callum to blast home an unstoppable shot. Matty and Euan then combined to set-up Rob Illingworth to make it 0:7. It was a race for a hat-trick at this stage with Rob Illingworth winning the race when a Will Curtis shot was charged down but Rob had the presence of mind to back head it into the goal – 0:8. Matty completed his hat-trick moments later when Rob Illingworth again produced another great cross that Matty volleyed home – 0:9. Euan then beat two players to pass into Matty who made no mistake to make it 0:10! The half finished when a superb TSC corner from Rob was met with a great header from Jonny Parr to make it 0:11.

TSC used their strong squad to make five substitutions at half time. William Eddie making a good run on the right and shooting just wide. Archie Dalton then received the ball in midfield and played a good ball into Matty Wilson to race clear and score to make it 0:12. Callum Rankin was then denied his hat-trick when a great through ball from James Thorpe (JT) was turned home, only to be ruled out for off-side. Andrew Naisbitt then found Joel Tyler to battle well before finishing with style – 0:13.

Euan then embarked on a mazy run before finding Joel at the far post to volley home to make it 0:14. TSC completed their scoring when a good long throw by Ben Thurlbeck set Joel free for a great powerful shot to complete his hat-trick – 0:15. Two late home side goals were conceded with TSC losing their shape as all players developed “goal hunger disease”! Final score 2:15!

MOTM was a difficult one with some many goals flying in and a confident defence. It was shaded with the away coach’s pick of Rob Hardy. His holding of the ball, tough tackling and passing earning him great praise ahead of the hat-trick heroes. Well done Captain – keep those standards up!

Coaches Notes
A powerful first half performance by TSC gave the home side no chance in the cup. It was pleasing for Kirk Merrington to get two goals as reward for never giving up on what was a difficult day for them. TSC’s penetration in attack was fantastic in the first half and great to see the training practice on crosses and finishing being put to immediate practice in the game.

The attack rightly takes the plaudits for the goals we made and scored. However we score and defend as a team and this performance was given the platform from some excellent TSC defending, with excellent technique in winning the ball and passing out of defence.

It was difficult to learn much in such a one sided game. Positioning across the team at times still needs focus and with our eagerness to press forward in the second half we sacrificed our passing and errors crept in. Regardless of the score let’s look to keep the ball and not rush and waste possession. Great win, great flair and great for confidence. Tougher challenges will come. Well done!
