ELS HAS THE XFACTOR !

A great team performance saw the U11s through to the next round of the League Cup.

ELS HAS THE XFACTOR !
TSC U11 (sponsored by Holiways Ford) played in the second round of the League Cup on a fine sunny day.

Both teams played good attacking football in a strong opening. TIBS creating two early chances with good strong clearances from Ben Thurlbeck and Robert Hardy, in defence. TSC took the lead with good passing from defence. Joshua Young playing the ball to the non-stop Andrew Naisbitt who passed quickly to Euan Lee Shields. Euan exploiting the space after a great dummy run by Jonathan Parr that took the marker away. Euan ran strongly to outpace the defence but was well tackled by the TIBS keeper, the ball ran out to Joel Tyler and the in-form striker made no mistake with a right foot shot; 1:0.

Andy Naisbitt produced his best performance of the season. Non –stop running, tackling and simple passes to create space for his team. Andy tackling well and setting Euan for another run that was stopped by a great TIBS tackle. TIBS attacked on the break as TSC retained possession well. A well worked TIBS attack resulted in a great cross that James Thorpe (JT) caught well before setting up a quick break. Jonny and Matthew Wilson passing well in midfield to link up well. Joel running intelligently to receive the ball but was well tackled. Euan, Matty and Jonny then produced a superb set of one touch passes to leave the opposition in tatters – only some stout TIBS defending stopping a certain goal.

TSC pressure was relentless with the midfield and forwards movement proving too much for TIBS. Jonny heading the ball well in midfield to find Matty. Matty saw the space on the left and made a great run into the area before slotting home at the near post to make it 2:0. Matty then repeated the move a minute later. A fine pass from William Curtis finding Rob Hardy who played in Matty on the left. Matty burst into the area and was fouled for a penalty. Euan’s spot kick being well saved with the rebound being struck against the post by Joel. TSC would not be denied for long. Matty picking the ball up well in midfield and passing into Jonny on the wing. The winger made a great step-over and his cross/shot taking a slight(!) deflection off the defender to make it 3:0.

TIBS attacked with speed on the counter but the TSC defence was in strong form. Josh Young, Will Curtis, Rob Hardy and Ben Thurlbeck all tackling well and imposing themselves on the opposition. Josh setting up the midfield with some good passes. Euan, Matty and Jonny combining on several occasions to set-up chances for Joel and Robert Illingworth. Joel then dropped well to intercept a goal kick and passed brilliantly out to Rob Illingworth on the right. Rob has been in great form all season and today was no exception. Rob beating his man, looked up and played a great pass back to Joel to strike an unstoppable drive into the bottom corner; 4:0.

TIBS responded and a good cross was punched clear by JT. A great clearance by Josh stopping the danger. Rob Illingworth made another fine run and pass into Euan, whose shot was well saved. Will Curtis winning the ball and passing well to Joel, who made a great run in the channel and crossed strongly. Rob Hardy made a great tackle in the TSC box with Andy Naisbitt passing into Matty. Matty’s cross was half cleared only for Rob Illingworth to hit a shot that produced a great save from the TIBS keeper. Matty Wilson sniffing out the rebound and scoring from close range to close the half at 5:0!

TIBS were clearly fired-up at half time. A great pass and move setting up the striker for a certain goal but was denied by a superb JT save to his right. TSC attacked with great confidence that perhaps pulled the shape of the defence out of line. A long ball catching TSC square and the pacey forward shot into the bottom corner to give JT no chance. TIBS scored a second a moment later when a shot was charged down, deflecting high into the top corner to leave JT stranded awaiting a fire-mans ladder! Callum Rankin made a great tackle a moment later in the TSC box to stop TIBS. A series of long balls by TIBS were putting TSC under pressure. JT running off his line to make a telling interception.

TSC started to regain their composure with a number of well timed challenges by Archie Dalton in the sweeper role. Matty finding Rob Illingworth who made a great run before chipping the goalkeeper and setting up Jonny for a great chance that unfortunately flew wide. TIBS made it 5:3 with a shot again high into the corner that JT did well to get a touch to. William Eddie won the ball well and interchanged passes with Rob Illingworth before Rob’s shot went inches wide. Matty then passed into Euan who beat his man well and passed out to Rob Illingworth. The speedy winger beat his man but was pushed wide, his superb shot finding the bottom corner from an impossible angle to make it 6:3. Rob Illingworth, Will Eddie and Euan all combined well to set-up Ellis Weeks for two good runs on goal.

TIBS finished strongly with JT making a fantastic double save. The first at the forwards feet and then to hold well as the shot was hit in. A lively game closing at 6:3.

MOTM was awarded for the second consecutive week to Euan Lee Shields. His movement, passing and superb technique was a joy to watch. His ability to bring other players into the game as well as being a threat going forward was fantastic. I was especially pleased with his ability to always make the right decision in terms of pass, run or shot. The “Ronaldo” flick and reverse pass was full of confidence and long may it continue. Well done!

Coaches Notes
A superb first half for TSC with the whole team making contributions. Our forward movement was a joy to watch with a steady platform being built by the defence and defensive midfielders. The forward players should consider the great contribution the more unfashionable defensive position players make – a real team effort. The game was a great spectacle to watch and credit to TIBS who are a good side and never gave up. The start to the season has been great but really a “push on” from some good pre-season preparation. Noel and I both feel the team have more to give in terms of improvement both forward and in defence. This is not to say we are not pleased (which we are!) but we know the level the team is capable of if we all continue to work hard and listen. Areas to work on are positional play in defence, decision making in central midfield and aggression. Let’s reflect on the positives of a fine TSC pass & move performance - well done lads!
