THE U11S PLAYED WELL TO WIN 4:1 IN A CHALLENGING TUSSLE .. THEIR FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN SAW TWO GOALS EACH FOR IN-FORM STRIKERS JOEL TYLER AND ROB ILLINGWORTH.
TSC U11 (sponsored by Holiways Ford) entertained Billingham in a very physical encounter at Carmel. TSC rose to the challenge with no quarter given but ultimately let their football ability win the day.
The game started with some nice play from TSC. Matthew Wilson had a great game. Bossing midfield and showing some excellent long range passing to set up chances for the great movement of Joel Tyler and Euan Lee Shields – both going close with efforts. TSC took the lead with a sublime team goal. James Thorpe (JT) playing the ball out to Ben Thurlbeck. Ben beat his man and passed to Matty. Matty played a neat pass to Jonathan Parr, who in turn found the run of Euan. Euan reversed the ball to Matty, who dropped a shoulder and crossed well for the in-firm Joel Tyler to finish well – 1:0.
William Eddie, shielded the ball well before turning and passing well to Euan. Euan showed great technique to turn and pass to Matty. Matty hitting a first time shot narrowly wide. Robert Hardy was winning every ball in midfield to supply his team. His all action game is a great catalyst for the team and he now has a true end product in the pass/shot. Rob winning the ball and finding Euan. Euan playing a neat pass to Matty who another run and cross that just evaded Joel’s outstretched leg.
Billingham had a strong direct attack. TSC handled it well with Callum Rankin, Joshua Young , William Curtis and Ben Thurlbeck all playing well. A long ball found the forward and he unleashed a great shot that JT saved well. Matty then set-up a good run from Jonny. Jonny crossing for the keeper to claim just ahead of the goal hungry Tyler. Billingham then played a good long ball that evaded the central defence. JT making a brilliant save off his line to deny the forward. Josh Young then made a terrific tackle to stop another attack. Billingham were building momentum as perhaps TSC were a tad slow to the ball. A silly free kick was well hit into the box and flicked on by the forward. The ball hit the top of the bar, spun in the air and JT had another good save. The defence just did not react and two forwards bundled the ball over the line and left JT very frustrated.
The second half started with some strong tackles that the ref did well to control. Callum Rankin finding some good space to cross to Euan, whose shot hit the post. TSC were quicker to the ball and forced errors from Billingham. Rob Hardy winning the ball and finding Matty who raced into the box and was brought down for a penalty. Joel converting coolly to make it 2:1. Rob Hardy was winning every tackle and finding Callum who played some lovely balls into the forwards. Will Curtis’s free kick found Callum in acres of space. Callum crossed to Euan whose over-head kick was well blocked but the movement of Robert Illingworth was exceptional and he finished making it 3:1.
The TSC defence performed really well in the second half. Standing up to the physical challenge and dealing with the long balls well. Will Curtis over-hitting one back pass to JT. JT took the ball brilliantly on his chest before passing coolly to Ben – great play and distribution. Euan passing to Joel who found another great Illingworth run. Rob producing some tight control before finishing well to make it 4:1. JT then played a 40 yard kick to Rob Illingworth’s feet. The great pass was controlled well and Rob set-off on a run and shot that went just wide to deny the hat-trick (nearly his third hat-trick in 3 games!). Ellis Weeks had a strong second half at right back. He won the ball well and played some great passes. His game is developing well and he is knocking on the door to start the game. Archie Dalton and Andrew Naisbitt (great to have you back from injury) had lively games as subs. Archie winning good ball and being unlucky not to score with a couple of runs. Andy distributed the ball well and showed great eagerness to provide a pin.
The game closed with three great tackles from Josh, Will Curtis and Ben Thurlbeck to snuff out any attacks – 4:1.
MOTM was awarded to Robert Hardy for a Captain Marvell display in midfield. He drove his team forward, stood up to all challenges and played some good passes to set-up the attacks. It was a day for a gritty display to anchor the TSC attacking and Rob did this brilliantly in the second half. Well done Captain!
I thought we stood up well to a very physical display by Billingham. We remembered our principles and played some good football to show how a game should be played. In the first half I though after a superb team goal we took out foot off the gas and we were slow to the ball. We also struggle with the big pitches dimensions and it takes us a while to adjust. In the second half we were faster to the ball and our maths on the pitch improved thus creating better positions which we exploited. An area to work on in our crossing. We get into some great positions to cross but at times today we tried to beat the keeper at the near post or our crosses found the side netting. Let’s look up guys and find the forwards!
Great display, good character and a performance that sent out the right signals. Well done!
