U11S WITH LAST GASP WINNER !
THE U11S CONTINUED WINNING WAYS WITH A LAST MINUTE WINNER FROM JONNY PARR. ROB ILLINGWORTH OPENED THE SCORING. THE FOUNDATION FOR THE WIN WAS FROM AN OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE IN GOAL FROM JT.
TSC U11 (sponsored by Holiways Ford) preserved the winning streak with a late winner (2:1). Special thanks to Redcar Athletic for fantastic support in rearranging the fixture.
TSC had much of the possession in the first half to pressure the Redcar goal. Matthew Wilson took an in swinging corner that Robert Illingworth flicked on. The ball fell to Ben Thurlbeck whose shot lacked the power to beat the Redcar keeper. Callum Rankin passed well all day and strove well to create opportunities. His pass finding Joel Tyler whose neat pass found Rob Illingworth – his shot going just over. Callum then found Euan Lee Shields whose raking shot was just wide.
Redcar hit well in the brake with a good run and shot that James Thorpe (JT) saved well. TSC responded well with Joel and Rob Illingworth both hitting the bar after good passing play. TSC had good possession but our passing was a little off par with a number of passes failing to find the target. Jonathan Parr was picking up all the loose balls on the left and making a series of good runs. His cross finding Matty, whose shot was deflected wide.
Redcar again hit on the break with another fabulous diving save from JT to keep the scores level. A Redcar free kick was superbly hit. JT dived to his right and pulled off a great save. The play was end to end. Euan running well and playing in Joel’s run. Joel crossed well and Rob Illingworth was just unable to turn the ball in at the back stick. JT was again called upon to make a good save to deny the Redcar forward.
TSC upped the pace in the second half but again our normal fluent passing was a shade off target. Callum made a good tackle and crossed first time to Jonny Parr’s run. The winger shooting wide from close range.
Andrew Naisbitt entered the game and made an immediate impact both in passing accuracy and quickening the attack. His pass found Matty on the right. Matty beat his man with ease and passed to Rob Illingworth for a first time shot that thundered off the foot of the post – not our day?
The Redcar attack was being well controlled by Joshua Young and William Curtis. Will was back to his best with a string of good interceptions and passes into midfield. Robert Hardy was battling well for every ball but passes were just over-hit. Rob Hardy won a great tackle and passed to Andy. Andy passed wide to Matty who beat two players and crossed with his right into the box. Rob Illingworth lost his marker and adjusted his body well to fire into the bottom corner – 1:0!
Jonny then made a superb run and passed into Rob Illingworth for a shot that was well saved. William Eddie received the ball from Callum and beat three players on the left before his cross was intercepted – great run!
Against the run of play Redcar levelled. A cross from the right was cleared but not with purpose. The ball was swung in and the Redcar defender gambled well and was quickest to the ball to side foot home, giving a frustrated JT no chance from 5 yards.
TSC pilled on the pressure. The TSC defence alert to a number of attacks at the other end. Matty’s run was cleared for a corner. Matty crossed well and a fantastic run and header from Jonny Parr was tipped onto the post and in – 2:1! Last kick of the game! Well done to Redcar Athletic for a great game.
MOTM was awarded to JT for another outstanding display in goal. He made a string of fine saves, the best a sensational diving save to deny a well struck free kick. His distribution, talking and command of his box was first class. Excellent display to keep his team in the game and set up the win. Well done!
A good battling win with great character to score in the last minute. But how we made it hard for ourselves! Today was a real off day for our normal superb passing. The whole team passing was dreadful at times with too many “killer” balls wanting to be played. Our tempo was also slow at times and we did no track runners on a number of key moments. The whole team should thank the keeper today for ensuring our lapses did not cost us the game.
An off day for passing but two very well taken goals. Let’s finish a superb season well. Retain possession, not rush our passes and play some simpler, quicker passes.
Very well done for refusing to be denied the win – that is what makes the difference in Leagues. Keep it up!
