Old Alleynians
Sun 4 Nov 13:00 - Kent Girls League - Kent Girls - U18 Full time

Another good win for Darts U18 girls

Darts travelled to Alleynians

Darts travelled to Alleynians for theuir league match expecting a tough encounter and thats what they got. The team started aggresively attacking the rucks and turning the ball over a number of times and this kept the pressure on the home side inside their 22. The scrum was very strong with Tierney and Jazmine keeping everything solid and Megan was hooking the ball really well. When the team had a scrum 10 metres out the ball was moved to Lizzie M who found a gap and scored the first try. 0-5. Alleynians attacked straight from the kick off but great defence kept them out and a good clearing kick from Ewa put Darts back in the home half. Darts were looking good in the forwards and backs and when after Emily A and Emily D took the ball on it was moved wide and Isabelle made a great attack on the right and Anna and Lola both went close to adding to the score.Another good scrum put Alleynians on the back foot and a good tackle from Ewa and the pressure from Lizzie M saw Lizzie score her second try. Ewa converted. 0-12. As ever Innes was making sure that the opposition never made ground with her relentless tackling and she was backed up by the rest of the pack, a great tackle from Georgia kept up the pressure and following a great charge from Jazmine the ball found Anna who was only denied by great defence. When Alleynians tried to run out of defence they were stopped by a great tackle from Lizzie G but unfortunately wwhen Lizzie made a run with the ball she was tackled and hit her head and had to leave the field and was replaced by Nadia. More good defence was seen by Isabelle who put in a cracking tackle and even when they made a breakthrough the first line of defence Holly was there to clean up. Darts ended the half with a lead but the game was far from over
Jazmine had to leave the field and was replaced in the front row by Emily A and Elizabeth came on, Lola moved into the second row to allow Talie to come on at flanker. The second half started really well with a great run from Anna from inside her own half and she was only stopped 10 metres from the line by a great tackle. Despite the changes the team continued to play some great rugby and it was good to see Tierney and Elizabeth taking the ball on gaining ground which gave space for the backs to attack. A scrum close to the opposition line was picked up by Emily Dand she was stopped a metre short of thre line and the loose ball was picked up by Lilly who drove strongly to score i the corner. 0-17. The pressure continued as Lola and Innes continued to disrupt the opposition when they had the ball or make good ground with ball in hand. Megan was continuing her great spell with some great play all around the pitch and when Holly made a great run Lilly took the ball from the breakdown and seeinga gap on the blind side sprinted in for her second try.Ewa and Lizzzie were combining really well at fly half and inside centre and this created the space for Anna who making some really penetrating runs. Isabelle who had been outstanding in the first half was unlucky in that the ball was not getting to her on the left wing but when she had the ball she always meade ground and was able to recycle the ball. Talie was making her tackles and along with Tierney , Elizabeth and Emily A were making some great runs. Alleynians never stopped working hard and were trying to get behind the Darts defence but our tackling was extremely solid and after a great breakout from Lizzie the danger was cleared. Lola and Innes also broke out from their own half created more space for the backs to move the ball slickly and Isabelle was unlucky not to score but when the ball quickly recycled it was Anna who took advantage and went over to score from 30 metres. Ewa converted. 0-29. A fabulous clearout from Elizabeth put Darts on the attack again and when the ball was moved wide to the right Nadia who still had a lot of work to do scored in the corner showing great pace and footwork for her first try for the club. Poppy came on for Megan and there was no difference in the forwards with her hooking and throwing in still very good. At the end Alleynians showwed their great spirit by keeping the ball through many phases to score a well deserved try and end the match at 5-34.
Another great performance by all the girls who are really coming together as a team and improving their skills and understanding of the game every week. It was difficult to pick a player of the match as there were so many good performances but at the end the coaches decided that Anna was deserving of the award for her strong running and tackling.
Next week the team play Medway in the National Cup.
