In a closely fought contest Dartfordians came away with a very narrow victory. Having lost the toss we were put into bat, the team was largely inexperienced and for some this was their debut at "hard ball"cricket.
It was a fair start to the batting season with credible scores posted by Henry Jones, Tom Collins and captain Jake Fairman. With a little help from extras we posted a total of 72 runs.
It was important that we bowled and fielded well but despite our best endeavours the opening pair from Chislehurst and West Kent batted very well and put on 41 for the first wicket, broken by Dan Mitchell taking a wicket with his very first ball in a competitive match, thereafter the Darts bowling attack turned the screw and runs became harder to find but with 4 overs remaining our opponents needed 9 runs to win with 9 wickets in hand, it looked to be all over but then panic ensued and 6 runs outs and a couple of catches later Chislehurst finished their innings with 70 runs.
A great effort by all that has set us up well for the remainder of the season.
