With another break in the Devon 1 league programme, Dartmouth welcomed The Britannia
Royal Navel College to Norton Playing Fields for a friendly match which also doubles up as
The Sugden Cup match which is usually contested for whenever these two teams meet.

With several players injured and carrying knocks meant that there were starting places for 54
year old Andy Williams at lock and 55 year old Colin Champion at prop. Dartmouth started
well and after Koree Britton had opened the scoring on 15 minutes with his first try of the day
Dartmouth always looked in control. There were further tries from Linford Brock with his
first for the club since signing from Barnstaple, Jack Stirk and Xavier Picot before the half
time whistle went with Dartmouth leading 26-0. All conversions scored by fly half Matt
Hawkins.

The second half didn’t get any better for the College and Dartmouth ran in another 6 tries
with some really impressive rugby at times. Player Coach Tom Clark got the first try of the
second half on 47 minutes and then Matt Hawkins with some great running scored his first try
since joining the club from Kingsbridge in the summer. Koree Britton then added his second
of the match to take the score to 45-0 before some great wing play from Conor Cranfield set
up Xavier Picot for his second try of the match. With 13 minutes remaining Captain John
Dingle carved out a great opening to set up Matt Hawkins for his second try of the day and
then the biggest cheer of the day came in the last minute of the match when Andy Williams
got the ball and his determination saw him go over to score the last try of the match to finish
the game at 64-0. All conversions were scored by Matt Hawkins who had a personal tally of
24 points. Credit to BRNC who unlike the score line suggests never gave up and made a real
game of it. Tom Clark was awarded the man of the match in the clubhouse after.

It’s back to Devon 1 league duties next week when Dartmouth travel to Exeter Athletic for a
15.00 KO. All travelling support most welcome.

Dartmouth would like to say a big thank you to Andrew Colthart for all his work over the
summer in treating the pitch and sorting out some much needed drainage work that has been
long overdue.
