Datchworth go 4 wins from 5 as they secure bonus point victory against plucky Wasps outfit

Datchworth made the long trip to Acton on the back of a rest week having convincingly dispensed of league leaders Belsize Park previously. The visitors came flying out of the blocks and within 15 minutes, were two tries up. The first was created from extensive forward pressure, which led to space for the backs, Fly-Half Sam Brunton executed a cross-field kick to perfection, centre Matt Winters gathering and finishing in the corner, not converted. Soon after, a chip and chase from the mercurial Winters saw him 1 on 1 with the Wasps full back, a classy offload put in captain Tom Wood for Datchworth’s second, this time converted.

Wasps fought back with a period of pressure, though could not make it tell and Datchworth secured their third try just before half time. This time it was Wing Lyndon Wainwright crossing for his first of the season – giving Datchworth a 19-0 lead at the break. Wasps scored first after the break, only after intercepting an offload from Adam Scanlon that would of seen Datchworth score their fourth. The Wasps winger gathered, sprinted the length of the pitch and finished under the posts. Soon after, Datchworth got their bonus point try – a penalty try. Sustained pressure at scrum time, a Datchworth scrum that hadn't taken a backwards step all game saw the referee penalising the hosts and Wood added the extras to secure the bonus point.

Wasps scored a late consolation though it wasn’t to be. An impressive victory from the ever-improving men in green saw them move to fifth in the table. This week sees them at home to high-flying Fullerians in what will prove to be a mouthwatering contest.
