THE CHARITY’S WE ARE SUPPORTING:
The PBC Foundation (UK) Ltd is a charity offering support and information to PBC sufferers, their families and friends. Primary Biliary Cirrhosis (PBC) as it is fully known is a slow, chronic liver disease which can cause progressive destruction of the bile ducts in the liver. It is thought that PBC is most common in Scandinavia, Scotland and North East England, although it is found in people all over the world. In each of these areas it has been shown that as many as one woman in a thousand between the ages of thirty and eighty may have PBC. As there are no good identifiable risk factors, it is not yet known whether it is possible to prevent the disease. Although there is presently no cure for PBC, there have been some major breakthroughs in the treatment of the illness in the last few years. Our aim at Daventry Rugby Club is to help support the charity to allow it to develop its research programme and continue to provide fantastic support to its sufferers.
Macmillan cancer relief act as a source of support, helping with all the things that people affected by cancer want and need. It's not only patients who live with cancer; Macmillan help carers, families and communities. Macmillan guides people through the system, supporting them every step of the way. They fund nurses and other specialist health care professionals and build cancer care centre’s. But they also give so much more than medical help.
People need practical support at home, so they provide anything from some precious time off for a carer, to a lift to hospital. People need emotional support, so they listen, advise and share information though their cancers support specialists, website and trained professionals. People need financial help to cope with the extra costs cancer can bring, so they give benefits advice, and grants for anything from heating bills to travel costs. Together they listen, they learn and act to help people live with cancer. Our aim at Daventry Rugby Club is to help Macmillan in and around Daventry by raising money to help them continue to offer the fantastic support that they currently offer.
