Uxbridge 0 Daventry Town 2

Daventry Town answered recent criticism of the team in emphatic style by beating the current form club Uxbridge FC by 2 – 0 away from home, goals from returning Captain Liam Dolman and striker Luke Keen netting their team another vital three points at this crucial stage of the season!

Uxbridge had not lost in their previous nine games, which included a convincing 4 - 2 victory over Kettering Town last weekend and Rugby Town by 3 – 1, just two weeks ago. The last game they had lost was at promotion contenders Barton Rovers by 2 – 0 in early February!

By beating Uxbridge at the Honeycroft without conceding a goal, Daventry have sent out a clear message to other championship challengers, that they are serious candidates for the title!
Town have lost just three of their last thirteen matches, two of those against competitors Dunstable and Kettering Town and the `blip` against Ashford, bought about by having to play too many matches in a short period!

Daventry Town Manager Darran Foster was elated at his team’s success;
`This was our best performance in months by a long mile, the commitment and belief shown by the players was unreal and the team spirit has suddenly turned a corner.
We played some of our best football in a long time, helped by playing on a decent pitch!
`Uxbridge were most definitely the form side going into this game, having gone unbeaten in nine games, including victories over Rugby and Kettering!
We started brightly from the first whistle playing some neat football which was a pleasure to watch. In the second half, defensively we looked back to our best!

`This evening (Thursday), we travel to Egham, which will be another massive game for the lads.
Egham are a very good side, who have shown their capabilities many times this season. It will be tough game but if we play as well as we did in Uxbridge, we should have a good chance of winning the game!
`The next five league games are huge, they are all teams we are capable of beating on our day.
I know it`s a cliché, but we are taking it one game at a time. I gave the lads a ten game league, finish top of it and we win the title, it is really that simple!

Captain Liam Dolman had put Daventry ahead from the penalty spot on twenty four minutes; Ross Oulton having been bought down in the area, as the Uxbridge defenders failed to deal with the surging run of the mercurial and unpredictable midfielder.

Daventry Town went two ahead after an hour; Josh Blake collected the ball from a throw in and laid it back off to Luke Keen, who took one touch to control the ball, before hitting a cracking shot towards goal, which went in off the post.

On Saturday Daventry Town entertain St Ives at Communications Park, who will also have played four games in seven days!

Foster also spoke about the Hillier Cup Final v Cogenhoe United next Tuesday 8th April at the Sixfields Stadium, home of Northampton Town.
`This has now become a tricky game for us, of course it would be nice to go out and win the game with our strongest line - up, but four games in seven days can take an awful lot out of players and we cannot afford to lose anyone to injury!
`We still have six league games after the final; this will take us to sixty games played this season. We shall put out a strong side, as we have twenty players on our books, but I will be being very sensible as to which lads will play.
Ross Oulton is suspended and it is very unlikely Ashley Robinson will be back fit for the match, but we will continue to monitor his progress. Tommy Berwick is cup tied but James Husband could make the final!
`I would encourage supporters of the Purple Army to come along to Sixfields and cheer the team on to Cup success!
