Daventry have too much for Ampthill and Northampton Town XI!

Two hat tricks from Josh Blake and Jamie Calvin sent Ampthill Town crashing to an 8-1 pre-season defeat at Communications Park, Josh O`Grady scoring from the spot and Joe Power hitting a sweet strike to round off the goal scorers.
It could have been nine goals but for Calvin having a penalty saved in the 80th minute.

Daventry had kicked off the match with just three players who had played for the club last season, Josh O`Grady and right back Ashley Deeney, with Josh Blake sitting on the bench.
Both regular goal keeper Richard Morris and striker Tommy Berwick were absent because of holidays in the sun!
Mitchell Piggon was substituted after just 23minutes with a troublesome foot injury, replaced by one of the hat trick stars Josh Blake.
The pace of winger Dior Angus was proving too much for the Ampthill defenders, Angus unlucky to see his effort bounce off the post after thirty minutes.

O`Grady got up and converted a penalty after he had been bought down in the area then he became provider for the second goal, passing the ball to Calvin to fire his shot below the Ampthill keeper. Kieran Fitzgerald took the ball to the by-line before passing it back into the path of Josh Blake, who turned and scored the third.

Fitzgerald provided the assist for Blake’s second with a smart cross which Blake headed past the keeper and Blake scored his third soon after, to complete his hat trick.
A couple more from Jamie Calvin and a sweet strike from Joe Power completed the scoring.

On Tuesday Daventry Town completed their pre - season with a victory over a Northampton Town XI, a combination of youth players and Connor Roberts, the only first team professional making the short trip to Communications Park.
Daventry won the game by 4-0 with goals from Dior Angus, Jamie Calvin and two from Josh O’Grady.

Daventry took the lead after 14minutes, Dior Angus the son of former Cobblers and Fulham defender Terry, fired home a half volley at the far post from a right wing cross.
Three minutes before the break, Jamie Calvin doubled the Daventry lead when he hammered home a close range volley.

Daventry almost went further ahead, Cobblers keeper Charlie Andrews having to tip a long range effort over the bar, minutes before Josh O`Grady scored the third and fourth!

Daventry Town will be looking to start the new season on a winning note, after being handed three of their first four league games at home, kicking off the new season this Saturday 9th August against Uxbridge FC, quickly followed by St Ives Town ( next Tuesday 12th Aug) three days later.
Last season Uxbridge finished tenth in the table with St Ives Town in thirteenth place.
