Two first half goals by Cobblers Aimee Smith helps secure victory

Two goals in each half prevented Daventry Town Ladies from breaking a sequence of three league matches without a victory after losing to Northampton Town Ladies.
Ladies Football is booming in England after this year`s Womens World Cup in Canada in which England reached the semi-final losing a closely fought match with Japan by 2-1.
England went on to beat two-time World Champions Germany in extra time to secure third-place thanks to a lone Fara Williams penalty.
As a result Ladies Football in Daventry has also seen a huge upturn in interest and Daventry Town has a flourishing Ladies team competing in the Northamptonshire ladies League after a break of a couple of seasons.
A youthful Cobblers Ladies team went ahead after eleven minutes centre forward Aimee Smith latching on to a fine through ball to hit her shot inside the Daventry keeper`s right hand post.
Smith got her second a couple of minutes before the interval putting a fine shot inches over the keepers outstretched fingers to give Cobblers a comfortable two goal lead.
Daventry keeper Kellie Billeness made a good save minutes later holding a low shot tight to her body from the Cobblers goal scorer Smith.
Billeness showed some good handling, shot stopping and kicking throughout the match and deserved the player of the match award despite conceding four goals.

Ladies Manager Ben Jones was impressed with the Cobblers but felt his team made it too easy for them,
`The Cobblers came at us full of energy and controlled the midfield from the start, they moved the ball well and had a good shape.
`I felt we gave them too much space and made life easy for them to pick their passes out.
`The first two goals were taken well but were the result of individual mistakes.
The first was a controlled finish and the second a really well hit strike from outside the area.
`We could have shown a lot more fight to win the ball during the first half and use our strengths which is our player`s ability to move the ball.
`I thought we gave up too easily and didn't work as a team. Our decision making was a weak area.

Daventry`s best effort on goal in the first half came when Daventry`s Jade Reynolds got free of her marker but she tried to pass the ball beyond the Cobblers keeper but only managed to hit the ball straight at the keeper.
The Cobblers Ladies showed plenty of composure on the ball creating several goal scoring opportunities but Daventry keeper Billeness blocked several of their shots to keep the score down to two goals at the interval.
Daventry suffered due to a number of injuries to key players during the match.
The influential Claudia Trotman having to leave the field on two occasions because of what appeared to have been a knee injury and Chelsea Smith had to leave the field with what appeared to have been a wrist or elbow injury.
These injuries obviously affected the teams balance and formation which resulted in them conceding another two goals within a minute of each other after the hour mark from Isla Fleury and Cesca Partridge.

Jones agreed the loss of Smith and Trotman affected the balance of his team,
`Injuries to key player`s doesn`t help, especially when we have defenders out injured before the game started.
`Chelsea plays with her heart on her sleeve and she was a big loss. Claudia was playing in her first game back and was a physical presence that we lost early in the game.
`It disrupted our game plan because both are very important players to the side.

The third goal was scored on 66minutes the Cobblers striker Isla Fleury collecting the ball out on far left before beating the defender and firing a fine shot high into the top corner leaving Billeness with very little hope of saving.
The fourth goal came a minute later the Cobblers right winger Cesca Partridge hit her shot from outside the area under the Daventry keeper`s body to seal a comfortable victory.
Both teams tired after about 80 minutes but Daventry still had chances to score.
Daventry`s Olivia Coulson was presented with a wonderful opportunity to score but her shot went narrowly wide of the post and the same player had another shot saved by the Cobblers keeper when clear through on goal.
Coulson was the main threat to a youthful Cobblers team who looked very comfortable on the ball when pressing forward.

Ladies Manager Ben Jones would like more players to come along and join the club,
`We are always looking for players to help strengthen the squad. We currently train on Wednesday nights at the ground 7.00pm and home matches take place at Communications Park at 2.00 on Sundays.
Girls and Ladies interested in joining the Ladies team should contact Manager Ben Jones on 07771 366459 or email him on ben.jones84.bj@googlemail.com.

Daventry Ladies next match is next Sunday when they visit Peterborough Ladies.
