Daventry return from long trip to East Yorkshire with narrow defeat

Daventry Town could have gone joint second in the Northern Premier League South table had they won at Goole AFC, but the Vikings were 2-0 victors, Jamie Coulson after 23 minutes and Bobby Johnson on 67 minutes, taking Daventry into fourth place instead.

After progressing into the next round of the Hillier Cup by beating Northampton Spencer in a penalty shoot-out last week Daventry recalled a number of first team players to the starting line-up including goalkeeper Ben Heath, striker James Tricks and Centre back Ricky Hill.

Daventry were without their captain Jason Lee who was attending his sister`s wedding so striker Nabil Shariff wore the captains armband during his absence.

Daventry also welcomed back midfielder Ross Oulton on a dual registration arrangement for one game from Leamington.
Oulton needed the game time and Foster needed extra players with a number of players absent.

Dan Childs was on holiday in Las Vegas, Barry Deacon withdrew Friday evening and Kieran Fitzgerald withdrew an hour before the squad was due to leave for Yorkshire on Saturday morning.
Joe Curtis travelled with the squad but was carrying an injury and had to be substituted after 65 minutes.

Daventry fell behind to a goal from Jamie Coulson after 23 minutes, his sixth goal of the season.
Coulson is three goals behind former Daventry striker Luke Keen (Romulus) at the top of the goal scorers table.

A further goal from Bobby Johnson after 67 minutes wrapped up all three points for the Vikings taking them up to sixth in the league table.
Daventry played well creating a number of goal scoring opportunities but the Goole back line were strong and organised keeping a clean sheet for the first time this season.

Daventry Town Manager Darran Foster was not a happy man with the number of absences and what he described as a lack of passion throughout the team.

`It was a massive disappointment because we lacked any kind of enthusiasm.
I have submitted three seven day approaches for new players and there will be more to come.
I think we are four players away from reaching the decent level of earlier performances.

`We can enjoy our success`s but I will not paint over the cracks. Unless players are fully committed to the standards we expect on a regular basis they might as well leave the club.

`Our last two performances have lacked any real desire or passion and that is why we got turned over so easily.
`I shall expect a massive improvement on Tuesday against one of the title favourites Spalding United.

`I hope to have a couple of lads back which will be a relief after Saturdays poor performance.
Spalding have signed a whole host of top name players so we know we are in for a tough game so if the lads don`t raise their game we shall have problems.

On Tuesday Daventry return to Communications Park entertaining tenth placed Spalding United who reached the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup for the first time in 11 years on Saturday by beating nine man Coalville Town by 3-0, Coalville having had two players sent off.
