Trialist Jamie Calvin scored a hat trick to condemn Barrow Town of the East Midlands Counties League to an eight goal defeat.

Jamie Calvin scored a hat trick to condemn Barrow Town of the East Midlands Counties League to an 8-1 defeat at Communications Park, striker Mitchell Piggon grabbed his third goal of the pre -season, ably assisted by Dior Angus, Josh O`Grady, Ollie Wilkinson and Barry Deakin with the other four goals!

The game was all square at half time but Daventry came alive in the second period and completely dominated the match scoring seven goals without reply. It was trialist Calvin who stole the show scoring a hat trick of goals, which impressed Team Manager Darran Foster.

`I was very disappointed with the first half because we appeared to lack any sort of enthusiasm and effort.
Our first goal from Jamie Calvin was an absolute beauty with Josh Blake, Jack Walden, Dior Angus and Tommy Berwick all involved but apart from the goal it was a dull affair.
The second half was much more encouraging and the football was a lot more fluent and the work rate exceptional.

`Jamie Calvin is a former Oxford United and Watford Scholar, a young lad who was released by Oxford United at the end of his second year scholarship.
We are very interested in getting Jamie to join the squad, but we need to go through the correct channels.
The other trialist we have is a young left back Jack Walden who is a free agent at the present time, a player who has shown a lot of class on the ball.
I am looking at signing another striker and defender, so hopefully by the end of the week we will have secured those players too!

`Pre - season has so far has been encouraging, although I don't think there has been one game where we have managed to put out a full strength side, due to holidays or injuries.
The results have been good and although we lost 4-1 to Coalville Town, even that performance was bright and encouraging.

`We have almost completed the business of signing players for this season, former Long Buckby player Joe Power and Rushden born Barry Deakin have both put pen to paper, which has created good competition for places within the midfield areas, which can only be good for us as a squad.
