Daventry Town extended their unbeaten run in pre-season to 4 games after a 2-0 victory over UCL Premier Division side ON Chenecks at Communications Park. Goals either side of half time from Sam Heavey and Adam Creaney were enough to see Daventry to their third victory in 4 games.

ON’s started the stronger and had the first chance after just 23 seconds with a header which was easily saved by the home keeper. Daventry’s first opportunity was on 3 minutes with a corner, which was comfortably dealt with by the away side. ON’s kept up the pressure with two corners in two minutes. ON’s best chance of the game came on 11 when their number 9 turned well on the edge of the box and hit a shot onto the cross bar.

Daventry came into the game more as the half wore on and Bates had a shot well blocked. Daventry’s opening goal came on 25 minutes after James Weale was brought down in the 6 yard box which gave Sam Heavey the chance from 12 yards, which he duly took hitting the ball straight down the middle. The rest of the half was an even affair with both sides having chances. ON’s did have the chance to equalise in the 44th minute when they had a shot well saved onto the post and out for a corner .

The first action of the second half came when the away goalkeeper inexplicably picked up a back pass 10 yards out from goal. From the resulting free kick the ball was laid off to Adam Creaney, and the Ginger Pele scored with a powerful strike. Daventry had the best of the second half and could have made it 3 on 54 minutes when the away keeper saved a shot onto the post from James Weale. ON’s best chance of the half came on 67 minutes when their striker tried to dink the ball over the keeper when clean through and it was saved. Daventry continued the pressure throughout the second half and forced 5 corners but were unable to add to their tally.

Daventry’s next home game is on Tuesday the 26th of July, when we welcome Hook Norton to communications park, kick off 7:45.
