The 1st XV followed up two home wins vs Fraserburgh and Dyce with a trip to Elgin to play Moray 2nd. Unfortunately they couldn’t make it 3 in a row going down 5-43. The team are on the road again this weekend with an away game vs Peterhead. Follow results on the website.
There was a busy weekend at Woodend last weekend with a full round of home games in the Lancer Conference vs Dundee - and a clean sweep for Deeside/Garioch. U18s started off with 36-22 win on Saturday, followed on Sunday by U16s 52-29, U15s 68-12, U14s 41-22 and U13s 34-4. This weekend the teams are away to Gordonstoun so Woodend may be quieter on Saturday. Follow the full results and league positions here.
A great team effort on Saturday morning organised by James saw the marquee put up and floor installed. Hopefully it will stay up this time - I know that there are still some thoughts about further strengthening to be added. This now provides a social space for the Junior teams to entertain their visitors after games. It certainly proved its worth on Saturday, when as the screw drivers were put away the teams came in out of the rain for soup and sandwiches. Talk about just in time completion! Thank you to everyone that helped out.
It is also very reassuring to see the main pitch stand up to the hard games that it has had over the past few weeks, some in absolutely atrocious rain. Once the rain has gone, it looks as good as new. Certainly can see the impact of the large pitch maintenance budget that James manages.
There will be a visit on Tuesday evening (30th October) from our new SRU Regional Manager to bring him up to speed with what we have and our development plans so that we get his support for pushing forward our funding applications through the SRU. It will be good for him to see the training facilities that we have - the floodlit pitch certainly is impressive to see.
Please ensure all subscriptions are paid online and players are registered on SCRUMS. All players and club officials must be registered on SCRUMS by 31 October. For those under 18, they must be registered by a parent/guardian.See the Scottish Rugby YouTube video linked on our website.
One way to generate funds is to do your online purchasing through the easyfundraising page. If you have not already signed up, please use this link and generate an additional bonus. From the reports that I’ve seen there are a small number of people that use the link - if the use was extended it is an easy way to generate funds for the Club.
Over the past few weeks I have got some more supplies of socks, hoodies, shorts, jerseys, beanies, and contact tops. Sales have been brisk and hopefully Michael will be able to be open for business on Saturday. We also hope to have a second hand sale but we need some organisation for that - could you help? Check out the Deeside Rugby online club shop on the RugbyPlus website for items of club kit that we don’t hold at Woodend.
