This blog is issued on a weekly basis to keep you up-to-date with activities at Deeside Rugby Club.
Well that’s the Six Nations over with for another year – not sure that my blood pressure could have stood much more of it! All the teams kept us on the edge of our seats for good and bad reasons!
The return of the ‘mini Beast from the East’ on Sunday meant that the planned Grampian Girls games vs Biggar had to be cancelled. It also meant that most of the P6/7 SRU coaching course on Sunday had to be delivered inside. Hopefully this is the start of us getting more SRU courses delivered at the Club.
• The U16s continued their travels in the Caley Shield competition with a trip to Invergordon on Sunday to play Ross Sutherland. They took over where Scotland left off! A very close game with 3 tries for each side but Deeside/Garioch eventually winning 19-18, as a result of two conversions vs one penalty. The team have now earned a home tie for the first time in the competition, although the opposition for the semi-final is still to be decided as other games have yet to be played.
• The 1st XV are away to Ellon this Saturday with a 15.00 KO.
Tartan Touch is coming back to Deeside with sessions being planned for 10 weeks from Wednesday 9th May. Look out for the details and sign up requests. As one of the top 3 clubs that ran very successful Tartan Touch sessions last year, Bruce is off to BT Murrayfield for the launch day on Sunday and will deliver a presentation as to what we (at least he and Mike!) did to make it successful. This is an excellent marker for us in the eyes of the SRU, so thanks to everyone that made it successful. I’m sure that this year will be equally successful.
School of 7s
This is coming to Deeside on 4th and 5th August. Details available on the home page of this website. I’m really pleased that we are able to bring this camp delivered by ex-Scotland 7s players to Deeside as the Grampian leg of their Scotland tour and I’m sure that you will all make it a big success. Comments I have heard from those that have attended previous sessions have been very positive.
• 24th March – Car Boot Sale in the Woodend carpark from 10 - 12. This is a fundraiser for the U14/15 teams trip to France. Further details on the website
• Mitsubishi Kit for Clubs is a way of getting kit for the Club – all we need is at least 10 people to take a test drive to access £300 worth of kit. No purchase necessary!
