About the team

GENERAL INFORMATION
Welcome to Deeside Minis, Primary 7s. All are welcome (boys and girls) who are in Primary 7 in the school year 2021/22. We train most Saturdays 0930-1100hrs, at Woodend Playing Fields, Banchory, AB31 5QA. (opposite Tesco).
The aim of Mini Rugby is to start developing a lifelong love of sport, through rugby. We encourage children to learn the basic skills of the game in a positive learning environment.
Deeside Rugby follows the guidance from Scottish Rugby about COVID-related procedures, and when training can and can’t proceed. Please check your email for any last-minute updates.

KIT
If you’re trying rugby for the first time, there’s no need to splurge on a full set of kit initially. Comfortable sports clothing (appropriate for the weather) and trainers are acceptable, although rugby (or football) boots with studs are preferable.
Club-branded kit is available from Kitvendr.com, and some stock is available most Saturday mornings, from the club. In the kit store, there is a bucket of second-hand boots. Please feel free to help yourself – it operates on a system of one pair out, one pair in. In the first instance, if you don’t have a pair to put in, we ask that you make a donation at the tea hut instead.
The only piece of kit that is essential is a gum shield – these are inexpensive and can be purchased from most sports shops, or online.

COACHING
All Deeside Rugby coaches are PVG registered and have to have an up-to-date ‘Rugby Right’ certification from Scottish Rugby. Many, including Gareth, are trained to UKCC level 1, with some coaches in the more senior teams up to UKCC level 3 or 4.

REGISTRATION
If you’re new to the club, feel free to come along for a few weeks and give it a try. However, if you do decide to join, players need to register with the club (and parents can join as non-playing members). Registration forms, and payment, is via the Deeside Rugby website: www.pitchero.com/clubs/deesiderfc.
Club fees go towards running the club facilities, including rental of the playing fields. It also covers appropriate insurance for all players and therefore players will not be allowed to participate in any tournaments until registration is complete.
New players (those playing at P4 or above, for the first time) also need to be registered with SCRUMS, Scottish Rugby’s online system. Information is available from:
https://tinyurl.com/SCRUMS-letter
https://tinyurl.com/SCRUMS-guide
If you have previously registered with SCRUMS, at Deeside Rugby, this should roll over automatically and you should not need to re-register.
