Many thanks for posting up these old newspaper reports written by "Nomad" (aka Jim Paul) I always used to enjoy reading Jim's weekly football roundup in the Cornwall Courier because, with his local affiliation, he always made sure that the Slaters received more than their fair share of mentions even when their performances or league position did little to warrant it perhaps. It was nice to be reminded of some of the names of the players from opposing clubs we used to know and play against on a regular basis in those days.
One thing I remember is that the Courier had only one photographer (Paul Broadhurst) to cover all the matches taking place in the ECPL in north Cornwall each week. That meant he often had a job to get round to them all and would often turn up well before kick off time and take a few pictures of the players having a kick-in session to warm up before the match started. On one such occasion he got Ray Speare to lob a few easy shots towards me in goal and encouraged me to make a meal out of saving them. The following week's paper had a photo of "Delabole 'keeper Ray Worden in spectacular action during last week's game against Foxhole (or whoever it was)" when in actual fact it was nothing of the sort.
