The Slaters romp to victory!
Comfortable win in the end
Delabole were playing at home for the second time in 2 weeks and the visitors were second from bottom Tregony. As last week the pitch survived a pitch inspection as the weather wasn't as bad as forecast through the week and with fixtures stacking up for many teams the essence is to get the games played.
Delabole got off to the perfect start in the 3rd minute when a fine corner from the left from Mac Irwin
was knocked in by the opposition's player, 1-0. Then seconds later Mac Irwin
was in the thick of the action again when he scored from a Kieran Barrett
freekick, 2-0. The quick goalscoring didn't stop there when Kieran Barrett
netted The Slaters 3rd goal in the 10th minute, 3-0. Then by 20 minutes the game was all but put to bed when Glen Burrell
converted the 4th goal, 4-0. Delabole were on fire! Tregony rarely threatened Ashley Morris
and the Delabole defence and went in 4-0 at halftime.
The second half got underway and the swelling crowd were hoping for more of the same delightful football and goals. But it wasn't until the 60th minute when the scoresheet was added to when Jordan Blanchard
played the ball to Glen Burrell
who was running in on goal, then unselfishly passed the ball across to the unmarked Mac Irwin
to score his second of the match and Delabole's 5th goal, 5-0. there then followed a raft of substitutions by The Slaters keeping the match reporter busy jotting them down. The visitors started to see more of the ball in their own possession whilst Delabole started settling into the game but they couldn't stop a rampant Slaters when Jordan Blanchard
was played in by Glen Burrell
for a goal, 6-0. Tregony came back into the match quickly after with 2 goals to make the scoreline better for them but not troubling Delabole to much, 6-2 fulltime.
A great result for The Slaters playing good football finding it easy to pass the ball through the visitors most times. Also it was good to see all the substitutes getting a run out and much need match experience and fitness. Well done to the whole squad and club, things are definitely going in the right direction and needs to be with 4 away matches in a row for February!
