Derby Delight For Delabole!
The Slaters push for the top
Delabole travelled to a local rival in St Minver looking to secure another 3 points on their 2nd away trip in 2 weeks and took with them a good number of supporters for this important game.
This was to prove a feisty encounter throughout the match and several hefty challenges were being made by both sides in the first half. In the 15th minute Luke King played a ball in from the right wing which found Mac Irwin to tidily slot the ball home scoring his 5th goal of the season, 0-1. The exchanges of full blooded tackles kept on and several tempers were getting raised. The Slaters continued to soak up pressure from the home side and break a few times on the counter attack but to no avail. 0-1 Halftime.
It was only 10 minutes into the second half when Glen Burrell latched onto a ball that came off the defender leaving him only the keeper to beat and took the ball round the keeper to score easily, 0-2. Then 5 minutes later Kieran Barrett got onto the ball after it bobbled and kept himself top of the goalscorer chart with a clean finish, 0-3. It was to prove not to be St Minvers day when in the 70th minute they thought they had pulled a goal back only to be denied by the assistant referee raising his flag for offside, which after a deliberation the referee agreed with, No Goal. Delabole in the latter stages of the match brought on all the substitutes to get the needed match action and fitness. 0-3 Fulltime.
A fantastic result with 4 wins in a row this sees The Slaters keep to 1 point behind second placed St Merryn and only 2 points off the top spot currently filled by Tregrehan Mills who didn't play this week. There are teams below Delabole with many games in hand, so its vital for The Slaters to keep winning matches and picking up the points. Just keep playing the way you are and promotion will be yours and hopefully winners of the division, Well done everyone!
