The Taste Of Defeat For The Slaters
Delabole beaten easily
This fixture was due to be played at Mevagissey but due to a early kick off and referee problems the match was reversed to Delabole with both teams consent as the home fixture for Delabole has already been played, plus with the need for Mevagissey to play matches as they have only played a small number of games so far this season due to a waterlogged pitch. Delabole Utd AFC welcomed new signing Matty Simmons to the club.
The first half started and both teams were trading physical exchanges showing how much this match meant. In the 15th minute Lee Dungey played a nice through ball for Luke King to latch onto to and hold off the attention of the Mevagissey defender to shoot tamely into the goal,1-0. Then only 2 minutes later the visitors levelled the scores with a soft near post shot,1-1. The 25th minute came and Mevagissey took the lead making the scores 1-2 at halftime.
The second half got under way and The Slaters weren't looking their usual slick passing team and a shadow of their former selves from the previous 4 great results, and it soon showed when the visitors extended their lead to 1-3 with a fast break from a Delabole corner. THe Slaters had two close chances from Kallum Binney and a speculative flick behind at goal from Jordan Blanchard. The game was killed off in the 85th minute when a Mevagissey shot squirmed its way past Slaters keeper Ashley Morris, 1-4 Full Time.
This was a poor and disappointing result compared to how Delabole had been playing, taking nothing away from Mevagissey as they were a good side who just simply wanted to win the game more than The Slaters. One to forget for the club and with a weeks break now until the home game against top of the table Tregrehan Mills in a must win game!
